New CD-Burner

Looking for a new burner since the 4x scsi was sent to burner heaven. Looking towards the Plextor 12/10/32 or the 16/10/40 or is the 24x really worth it or not.

Any Ideas on a new burner?TIA:D

i have the aopen 12x cdrw (99$) and i love it. i did a comparison between it and my friends plextor and mine beat it by 20 seconds (same 600 something meg image file). go ahead and get the 24x, true there have been reports of people having problems when burning towards the end, but i would just go ahead and get it. my next drive is going to be an aopen though, what ****es me off is that the same place i got my aopen 12x for 99 has the aopen 24x for 89! i got mine only in the middle of this summer.

I've got a 12*10*32 Memorex, and have just aquired an 8*4*32 Phillips second hand to put in my bro's machine.

The few seconds difference in recording time really make no difference to me. Being on dial-up gives you a certain sort of patience about waiting on things.........:)

Make sure whatever you buy has burn-PROOF (Buffer Under RuN Protection). That way if the buffer gets emptied, the burner will run in a holding pattern until it manages to fill its buffers again and continue burning.

I hope the Phillips will work for a while cuz I've seen nothing but trouble with the 400 and 800 series (beige/silver and black/gold right?).

What brand 4x burner did u have. I suggest the new plextor burner or maybe the DVD-RW combo drive by Sony.

I had a Mat****a SCSI one. It worked well until it just stopped working.
