View Full Version : Can't start my PC after changing the FSB for my Celeron 733

Hi,
I'm not able to overclock my Celeron 733. At 66 MHz FSB everything works fine, but when I increase the FSB (75.83.100.103 ...) my Monitor won't show any signal.

Is this a new hardware lock?

Any idea?

Welcome to the forums! :)

Nope, that ain't a hardware lock.

Overclocking has many sides to it. You'll need good hardware, so please post some system details so we can help you more. (Motherboard make and model, cooling, ram, video card, other periphials).

Keeping the CPU cool is the key to a succesful overclock! What temps are you seeing the BIOS? (In celsius, please)

Anyway, give us more info so we can help you!

yes right...
here are the details:

Asus P2B-B (BX Chipset)
Abit Slotket !!!
Celeron 733
384MB Infinion RAM
Creative TNT2 ULTRA

My previous CPU was an Celeron 566@850. Everything worked fine. I was able to adjust the Voltage with my Slot Adapter.

Then I replaced the C566 with a 733 and now my PC won't boot until I change the FSB to 66MHZ.

The same CPU runs at 1100MHZ with a Gigabyte GA6-BA (BX chipset)

Hm, maybe there's something wrong with my Motherboard...

Thanx for your fast response

Could the slotket be causing you your problems, perhaps?

Again, what temperatures are you measuring?

I don't think so.

I plugged my CPU with my Slotket into the computer of a friend and it worked at 1,1GHz.

Although I wasn't able to measure the temperature (because the screen remains black after turning on the computer), I think this isn't the problem.

So I think it is either my mainboard (because it is very old and it wasn't build for such high frequecies) or my weak power supply. (230watts)

What do you think?

Try measuring the temps running at default CPU speed. This could give an indication of its oc-abilities. What cooler are you using??

Hmm, can't promise you that the motherboard can do it. The P2B is/was a GREAT motherboard, but it is also an aging motherboard that wasn't made for CPUs as fast as your new celeron.

Have you tried a more powerful PSU? I don't think the PSU is the problem though, but its worth a shot.

Perhaps soneone else has any experience with new cellies on an old BX mobo?

I tried an other power supply, but nothing changed.

But this is interesting:

I saw this error message above the PCI device listing:

<BIOS:> BIOS update data incorrect (CPUID:0000068a) Update not loaded

This sounds bad.

Heh, you should flash your BIOS with the newest BIOS version available for your P2B. Be SURE to use the correct one, or things can easily get messed up! :)

Good luck!

A bios update seems to be worth a try! Especially on old mobos!
Just give it a try!

Hmmmm... back when I was foolish enough to buy one of those Evergreen upgrades, I got that message. Once I found out they used Cyrix processors... I dumped it. But it could be that slotket/mobo combo together. The P2B was an excellent P2 motherboard, and lower end P3's worked well on it too. Though when I tried using a slotket on my P2B-B, it blew up in my face. Don't know why. Got a Celeron and this Abit SA6-R and never looked back....
