(scroll down from Maze2 questions)

Hey guys,

I was thinkin of purchasing a new radiator - specifically one that I could mount on the case with no trouble.

Seeing as the way Danger Den buils their cube radiators I could easily duct tape this to the top of my tower with no problem.

However in the one review I managed to find their original cube radiators "The cooling Cube" didn't seem to fair too well -

Has anyone used the Super Cube ? I can't find any reviews or anything on it, but I don't wanna spend 62.50 on it just because it mount sgood - if it aint gonna help keep my water cool !

The Blackice looks like a good performer for it's price and size - but like Similar radiators I'd probably have to engineer some sort of mounting system for it and - unless the pictures mislead - some sort of way to space my fan above it to duct the air ? (I could be wrong?)

I am just not good at THAT kind of stuff, and I really don't have the tools to drill anything in my case (I have an old baby AT tower and cardboard for my current radiator and reservoir)

I'm also considering a Maze2 waterblock - my concern with mounting anything on my CPU is cracking the core.

I know these 4 point screw mounting systems distribute pressure evenly - but I am always concerned about one side getting tighter than the rest and accidently chipping off a corner of my core during mounting and stuff.

Was it easy to install it ? Recomendations on how to do so ?

Thanks,

-Neco.

The blackice is very good if you want a small rad, only real downside is the cost. Cube rads in general perform much worse than a heater core, and heater cores are much cheaper.

I haven't broken any CPUs with my maze2. There are instructions on Dangerden's site for installing the maze2. As long as you follow those, you should be fine.

Yea, I read the instructions once I found them.. they make sense to me now that I did more than look at the pictures *cough*

Cube radiators suck ? hrmm....wish I knew how to mount something else...bleh...then would come the fan problem...

Can anyone explain what it is about cube radiators that suck ?

I mean sure, they are tiny, but I figure if I had a high CFM fans at each end or something, one blowin in and one sucking out that I would get pretty good cooling or something.

Bad thermal connection between the fins and the tubes and they tend to have a high pressure drop compared to heater cores.
If you want a core you can mount check www.liquidcool.org their heater cores have mounting points.

...even the copper tubes / copper fins have bad conductivity ??

eww..

Yea liquidcool has some interesting ones...but I was looking for something I could just fasten to the top of my tower externally..looking to get rid of the baby AT tower mounting scheme for more desk space...I guess I could just keep it and put a peice of cardboard on one side, then cut holes for the radiator, but I think that'd be loud too... (and I suck at ducting methods..I like them built into the radiator like the cubes)

Oh well... I got SCREWED out of how much money I was supposed to make, so in light of my Mobo and Ram and a few minor things I was looking to buy my Water cooling stuff MAY just have to wait

*sigh*

It's related to their construction method not the materials.
