well, my friend decided to give up with his TNT1 and go for a 8800 radeon graphics card. Even thou I'm all nVidia, I gatta admit, the Ti500 has no chance against this card.
Defualt Specs:
GPU Clock= 300MHz = 1.2Gpixel fill rate
Mem Clock= 600MHz = 9.6GB/s
OK, now for the sweet stuff, this card is a BEAST! He reached a 333MHz GPU Clock Speed and 667MHz Ram speed on a first attempt. In the next few weeks, he's gonna do a nice review on this card and give me an update.
p.s = His 3Dmark2001 is close to 10000.
I also want to note that his card has heatsinks on the ram and when I put my finger on the heatsink, it feels very warm to the touch. I knew ATI would need heatsinks on 600MHz ram:p
Its all good.

Only thing being, the 8800 is not a gamers card. It is designed for high-end professional packages (i.e. Autocad and the like). It also costs a bomb.

You referrring tro the 8500 or the 8800 which is really a 3D cad and multimedia workcard, not really meant for gaming.
10000 in 3d mark2001 is high like to see proof cause most with the 8500 are in the high 7 low 8K range, post the rest of your buddies rig and lets see some benchmark proof.
is this the card if so I am curious how well it will game cause its purpose is a workstation card and to process MCAD info...

well if you look at the specs, there is no reason that it couldnt be used as a gamers card....

Quake 3 see's it as a Radeon card with no problems what so ever.
yeah, his 3dmark score is between 9000~10000
he's got an AthlonXP 1900+ with an Abit KR7A

I'd say for 99% of us $780 us WAY to much for a video card. I could build 2 systems for that price! However that is a sweet card. Just too much $$ for what it's worth in my opinion.

yea, its a rip off since ATI aint that good since there drivers lick:D
And plus anything over $350 CAN ($234) american, is boogus for any graphics card. Your basically burning money. Youd have to be dumb to pay that much for a graphics card.
Anyhow, The GeForce 4 will be here April~May next year and it will put this 8800 radeon back in the can where it long belonged.
hehe lol j/k on that last one,
lon liv nvidia! ahh.... theres that R300 GPU now, guess ATI wont give up!
ext ext ext...

ATI is alot better than what you think and know, drivers are now being released alot more frequently, it has the best 2D and dvd playback and bottom line the 8500 will soon own the Ti500 and that is a direct comparison card as they are the 2 newest cards by both manufacturerers.
Check out what Ritteri&Bubbles has to say about the 8500, he is a nvidia fan bigtime but is staring agree ATI has it heading in the right direction and he likes what they have in the 8500.
Right now yeah the edge is in the Ti500's favour but by a small margin, to be honest it really would not be a noticeable diff to 95% of gamers out there.
Best bang for your buck is ATI

Not released yet? (http://support.ati.com/products/workstation/firegl8800/firegl_8800.html)
Either ATi is slow at updating their website or Developers got the goods early.

they won't be out of date they just won't be "top of the line". If they continue with good drivers your card should last you atleast a year I'd say.

OK, here's the BS I smell on this post:
1. "Friend" has a KR7 mobo. Really? Where did he get this mobo? My family owns a computer parts distribution center. And Abit has yet to ship this mobo. And there are less than a dozen test boards floating around as of this date.
2. "Friend" owns a 8800 FireGL videocard. Really? Where did he buy this videocard? Why dont I stock it yet?
3. "Friend" gets 9000-10,000 scores on it. REally? would love to see the proof, considering this videocard is not meant to run or play videogames at all. REgardless of the fact, I want proof. In fact, Im sure you're "friend" also has a digital camera at his disposal, so I want a shot of both the mobo, and video card. Otherwise you're just another "BS artist casualty".

Calm down. I can understand that you would like some proof, but the fact is (and you said it yourself) that there are these boards floating around, and ATI is offering the 8800 FireGL on their website (at least a look at it). And I'm sure w/ 128mb DDR on the card, it would pull 10,000 3DMarks, or therabouts, no matter if it was or wasn't designed for video games.

No, there are less than 7 KR7 mobo's floating around for review(and they are pre-production model's), and the 8800 has yet to be released yet to ANYBODY. This post has BS written all over it. And an extra 64 megs of onboard RAM will not necessarily score higher in ANY tests especially considering how the video card bus is setup. In fact its proven that many "workstation" grafx cards will post less than stellar scores than a comparable "consumer video card" as most are not oiptomized for fps or number crunching, but actually for geometric calculations using 1 or more outputs(monitors). A benchmark like 2001 3dmark would not be a good test for a card that isnt designed to "play" games to begin with anyway. Sorry, the BS flies here, and I want some hardcore proof. I am sure it will never materialize. The most that will ensue will be a lame rebuttal towards my original and current remarks.
Does anybody know when the R300 will be released?

I agree "BS" to the end!
