Does anyone know if the latest versions of Linux support firewire networking. Can it be supported by the kernel, LKM, a compiled binary, etc.? I am building a new sys and I want to be able to network it together w/ my old one (in same room as new one so 15' range isn't a problem). I want the blazingly fast transfer rate, and also, I don't want to buy a new NIC card. ANy help is appreciated.

also, how about networking via USB? Of course it would be v2.0 w/ a transfer rate of 480 Mbps as opposed to v1.1 w/ a transfer rate of 12Mbps.

I know WinXP lets you network with FireWire (but not USB), but I don't know about Linux.

There's support for FireWire, but I haven't seen anything to indicate that you are able to network over it.

Why not just use a loopback with 100mbit cards?
