I have a very hectice schedule with college and work and friends (I work as a programmer) which is very intense.

I want to find a game that I can play on Saturdays to relax...it cant be "levling" up type of game cause I can only play on saturday and I want to play it till 3am.

I also got a new monitor

Is the game I'm looking at BattleField? Or do you recomend another game such as CounterStrike? last time I played CS (4 years ago) it was FUN

single player, multi player, any specific type?
I think the new battlefield 2142 game is coming out soon, also theres guild wars, which you can choose to lvl up or just start at max level and play.

Ugh, I don't think i can recommend Battlefield as a relaxation game. I had that idea today after being in a crabby mood, so fired up some BF2. I was playing horribly and had crappy teams whereever I went. The explitives started flowing and my mood got worse. totally backfired. :)

Don't get me wrong, Battlefield is a great game and you should definitely pick it up, but I wouldn't recommend it at a relaxation type of game :) CS is also great...I'd get CS:Source if you are going to buy anything of of steam. Or better yet, get a good HL2 deal and get CS:S with it! HL2 is a sweeeet game.

Also Elder Scrolls Oblivion is awesome if you have a decent machine to run it (even if not, it's still a great game, just won't look a purty.) I'd say that Oblivion would be a good and relaxing game. maybe I should have tried that today :(

BF2 has a lvling scheme. The more ranks you get the more access to new weapons. And it sucks getting ranks let me tell you.. You could play on non ranked servers, which should be unlocked for all weapons.

why dont you want steam on your computer? all the kinks and bugs are pretty much fixed and its very convenient. i played cs since who knows when and i hated the transition into steam at first, but now its great.

i say heroes V, or any of the heroes games, heroes III was my favorite. They are very relaxing. You don't even have to be at the computer the whole time.

I used to play some suiside bomber game were you try to blow up as many woman and children as you can. I would play this game to relax while playing some elevator like music in the background from another flash game. The sites that they were on are sence gone but they are prob hosted elsewhere now I'll look for them and edit them in. The game needs background music horribly, as there is no sound until you explode, but anything you like to listen to should do.

Yeah, try Oblivion...OR....Diablo 2. If school's stressing me out, I just fire up D2, and I can sit there and swing at stuff for hours on end and not think about anything else. It does have leveling, but I just play single player. Doesn't matter what items you have, or what level you are, you can just play the game. It's really nice. Or you could even check out Warcraft 3, it has some really nice online mods to play, like DOTA, or you can actually play people, or you can play through the awesome single-player mode. Really cool story. These are some of the games I go with when I need to relax; I generally equate "relaxation" with "not online". Heh.

I second that. Poker is great after a long day.

World of Warcraft always worked for me.

Nothing like loading up for some PVP and wrecking kids.

Poker may not be the best idea. You won't be so relaxed after you donk off some money or suffer some bad bets.

lego star wars 2? havent played it yet but the original was some fun but short. when i want to relax i like the exploration type games. dungion siege, knights of the old republic etc. and you dont really have to worry about leveling up its pretty simple.

Ocarina of time for N64 :D

It was the only game one of my roomates could relax to after a 9 hour day of mechanical engineering classes.

I think once he got a game cube, he'd play the mario golf game also. That's a pretty fun and stress free game as well.

...you have got to be kidding me.

I was thinking the same thing. I pity the people that think that's the only thing of any value that they can contribute to society.

jivetrky
09-20-06, 11:32 PM
I really doubt the author of that game was trying to contribute anything to society. Let's not read too much into things here. This is like saying that Battlefield 2 is a tool for terroristic propaganda because someone can record a demo and it'll appear on a website somewhere. But let's keep things non-political as this could easily turn.

On Topic: Another game that I thought of, that I find to be relaxing to play, is Splinter Cell (any one of them). I still haven't played throught that much of the Chaos Theory, but I really need to. Unfortunately, right now, I'm addicted to leveling my rank in BF2 (Just started playing online within the last month).

But Chaos Theory has a great multiplayer also, me and my friend both had a great time playing it.

If you don't want a leveling up MP game then would recommend you try FEAR Combat. It's free and a lot of fun. It's compatible with regular FEAR so there are quite a few players out there. I usually play BF2 but when I play FEAR Combat I always have a good time. It reminds me of the old Doom2 days! FarCry also has a exellent non-leveling MP if you don't mind older games and it has really pretty good graphics even by today's standards.

Agreed And Agreed.

Both FEAR and Farcry have great MP (and FEAR is free and Farcry is like $10 at Walmart!)

A video game I relax to is Serious Sam. Turn it on, turn on the cheats, and just run around taking out my frustrations. Maybe it will help you. Oh and I'm talking about Serious Sam I.

I dunno about u guys, but i don't relax very well when i play multiplayer. Like inBF2, or CS i always need to be on the lookout for enemies; it just makes me more stressed. Its fun for me, but not exactly the most relaxing.

I just bougth BF2 little less than a month ago. It's quite fun! And the Rank leveling and weapon unlocks are addictive! You just want to keep playing a little more to get to that next level! :) When you get it, look me up! we'll play together!

I recomend CS because it is an awsome game, but not to relax. I started playing CS 4 years ago and I still play it religiously. I get juiced from it. I will feel like "playing a couple rounds only" of CS at like 9 o clock, and at 1:30 in the morning I'm so into it I slam my hand on the desk so hard my MX1000 launches up about an inch. :D :D

A great relaxing game for me is Flight Simulator. It is fun and all like a game while doing the more complex phases of the flight, but once at cruising altitude with the autopilot on, I just kick back, relax, enjoy the sunset at flightlevel 370, maybe drink some tea, then have fun with the landing phase. :D And turn some crosswinds up. :D Maybe an engine failure to deal with too. :D
