I was setting up a wireless network for a friend, and it was all going smoothly. I was using a Netgear DG834G v2 downstairs and a WG111 upstairs (not out of choice, I got the two on ebay, because they were being sold together).
The downstairs PC connected fine with a short length of CAT5, no problems, the upstairs PC is where the trouble lies. At first I installed the Netgear utility, it saw the router, I told it to connect, I entered the WEP key, all OK. Except, that it kept showing 'Limited or no connectivity' on the network connection in the taskbar. I tried changing the IP from automatic to 192.168.0.3 and this time it showed as connected. However, it couldn't access the web and it was showing no packets received. I tried just using windows, so I uninstalled the netgear thing and just used the built in utility. Same thing happened.
It's not a signal issue, as I moved the router into the upstairs room (without the phone line plugged in, letting it act as an access point) and it did the same. I'm going to try updated drivers and firmware, but I don't know if this will do any good. I also intend to try a D-link USB adapter as well and will be doing so on friday. I admittedly don't know much about networks, so if anyone knows of a particular setting or something like that that needs changing, please let me know. The guy said on ebay that the router had the latest firmware already installed.
Thanks for any help.
