In a desperate attempt to squeeze any remaining life out of my XFX GeForce FX 5200, I flashed the bios from a 5200 Ultra, which I read used the same NV34 chip as my card. Well, it didn't work....The screen is all messed up, but on a side note, when it boots to windows, it was pretty cool to see the "found new hardware 5200 Ultra" pop up in corner  (you can hardly make out whats on the screen though, very graining and lots of artifacts)

Anyways, here's my problem. I saved the original bios on disk but cannot see the screen when i boot from the floppy using nvflash v5.36. the monitor will not come on when it's plugged into the onboard intel graphics WHILE the 5200 is still plugged in. i have to take the card out for the onboard graphics to work. any suggestions? i also have a spare AGP card but same effect when they are both plugged in. im not too worried about the 5200 since i should be gettin my new 6800GS from newegg :P in a few days but i want to play BF2 tonight after work

have you uninstalled the drivers for the 5200? then reinstall for the 5200 ultra?

the same nvidia forceware would work for both but that's not the problem, the card definitely does not like this bios. when the computer starts up it looks like a fireworks display......random vertical/horizontal lines, keyboard characters, and colors.....just need to know how i can get my computer to display with the onboard video while i have the 5200 plugged in so i can flash it back.

disable the agp in the bios? i know that the boards that i have worked on have not had that option but i have not worked on a onboard in a while. do you have a normal pci graphics card? maybe you could use that one with the agp plugged in (someone probably needs to verify this first as i have not experimented with a agp and a pci graphics card) and then go into bios and set your primary display as pci.....just my .02

whenever i flash the bios on my card i put the new bios file on the flaoppy as well as the old bios on the floppy too, that way if i flash and its bad then i just reboot and flash back, a little thinking before doing things like this will save you a big headache in the future. if you can see enough to put the old bios on the disk then do that reboot and flash back. if you are using the new nvflash when you boot up you really dont need to see what your doing since you have flashed it already you should know about where in the boot process it comes up to the flash program so just type nvflash yourbiosfile.rom and flash it

ok. i managed to flash the original fx 5200 back to the card and everything is working perfectly. so now my question is what bios can i flash to my fx 5200 pci 256mg card that will work? the core is NV34.

i wouldnt bother flashing ...
