With The XP I belive you have to.
with the 1.4 you do not have to.
You can go without a reformat with the XP but you wouldnt take advantage of it fully.

Any more info on this? I was looking at buying a 1500XP. Why a total reformat with just a CPU change? Is there a link you could direct me to fo further information about this?!?
Or info you can relay?
Thanks.:burn:

As I replied to another thread. You do not ned to format, or re-load anything. Just ensure your BIOS is up to date.

i switched from the 1.4 to the xp 1600+ and i haven't had any problems and no format, now if you change motherboards you may have to because of the drives but that would be the only reason i could think of for a format:cool:

You won't have any problems if you don't reinstall, but you won't be taking advantage of the new software dependent stuff (which doesn't get installed if it isn't there when you install it)...like SSE and the like. At least, that's what I've heard. I would tend to believe it, though, as I heard it from a very good source.

I would format it so it clears out all the left over drivers from the older one.
