ok well my dad just bought himself an xpertvision 6600GT 128mb PCI-E card and after i chucked it in and benchmarked it 3DMark 05 gave a score of 3300 points.. now the problem here is he is using the exact same system i was before i got my new rig and i was scoring 4400 using a leadtek 6600 GT. so i went and fiddled a bit and found out that for some reason the card is only running 300mhz Core when its spose to be 500mhz (the tech docs on the card say its 500/1000mhz) and ive tried 3 differant sets of drivers with no luck. what could be making this card only run at 300mhz? im stumped here and realy hope he didnt get ripped off by buying this hunk of crap.

Thanks.

Did you plug in the molex connector? Power supply adequate? Did you get the "not enough POWAH so downclocking!" warning popup? Reboot and see if you get the warning.

Did you uninstall old drivers properly before installing the card?

The card runs at 300mhz in 2d mode but then changes to 500 mhz in 3d made once needed.
At stock speeds 500/900 (agp) mine does 3400 in 3dm05. A mate pcie one does 3600. Score for previous card seems too high unless overclocked. I know you have a much much better cpu than me (and him) but that should make very little defference in 3dm05 if any at all.

Have a look through other peoples results at futurmark and you will see what i mean. At 600/1200 mine hits just below 4200 in 3dmark05

ive set the 2d mode to run 500mhz core instead of its usual 300mhz and made sure 3d mode was running at 500mhz using coolbits and when i load 3dmark 06 it detects the core at 299mhz and memory at 1000mhz, now i overclocked the card to 550mhz core and then 3dmark detected it as 550 but the score was still the same. i have 3 systems to base this score off.

3200+ with no OC
Epox 9NPA+ Ultra
2x 512mb OCZ Premium
Leadtek 6600GT Extreme (overclocked to 550/1120 default)
3DMark 05 score 4400 (give or take a bit)

3500+ no OC
AN8 Fatality SLI
2x 512mb Corsair XMS
Leadtek 6600GT Extreme
3DMark 05 score 4600 (give or take a bit)

E6300 no oc
AB9 Pro
2x 1gb G.Skill 800mhz
Leadtek 6600GT Extreme
3DMark 05 score 4900 (give or take a bit)

and finally my dads setup made up of my old parts.

3200+ no oc
AX8 2.0
2x 512mb OZC Premium
Xpertvision 6600GT (spose to be 500/1000mhz clocks)
3DMark 05 score 3300 (give or take a bit)

now as you can see these systems are very similar except my E6300 rig but the score jump is massive over what my dads rig is getting and even when i overclock the card the score is allways around the 3300 mark. ive tried 3 differant drivers so far without any luck they all still score around the same, there is no Molex for power on the card but there is 1 on the board near the PCI-E slot which has a molex in it and im getting no low power warnings. there has to be something wrong here and its realy annoying me.

Thanks for the replies.

Upping 2d wont make any difference as it does it auto when needed. Your just running your card fast all the time now when its not needed. Use rivatuner and you will see the core speed go up as it kicks into 3d mode

Are you sure its a 6600gt and not a 6800gt you had previously? 4400 in 3dmark05 at default setting is very very high for a stock 6600gt. Actually its very high for one very overclocked. Please check the other results at 3dmark05 site and you will see what i mean

Hmm....Clock it to 500mhz then check your load temps.

yeah, could be overheating and thus stuttering
had that happen to a stcok 6600gt i bought =/

yeh the card i had previously was a 6600GT, its the leadtek extreme version thats clocked at 550/1120 as stock speeds, the bios says 6600GT aswell. as for my dads 6600GT its got a zalman copper cooler on it and idle its 35c and load is about 50c compared to mine which is 43 idle 60 load.

ill try get some SS of 3Dmark 05 cause them scores you showed me cant seriously be right if im scoring 4400 stock.

surely that whole list cant be wrong? 4400 at those clock could be right though for pci-e. try clocking new card to that speed and see what you get.

after you run it go to the online results and compare to others

I score 5400(give or take a few) with my 6600GT @ 630/1400 and 3700 stock.

You should call up the people at xpertvision

ive clocked the xpertvision card to more than what my leadtek card is and its still scoring the same, 580/1100 clock speeds and the score went up 20 points on 05, i guess this card is just a heap of **** :S

Guess so.... I always go with trusted brands.

Ive never even heard of xpertvision

what is the memory interface on that card? couldnt a 128 vs 256 bit make a huge diff?

i recomended albatron and leadtek to my dad but of course he knows best and bought something else and now paying for his mistake.

as for the memory interface i got no idea. ive managed to tweak the overall system a bit and its pulling 3700 from 05 now but its still far from acceptable for my liking. i guess he will just have to deal with it till i upgrade then he can have my 6600GT and sell the xpertvison junk to some poor ******* on ebay.

must have been a 256bit card then.

you will be up there with the best of the best. your old card was going as well as a 6800gt pity you still dont have it as it was obviously a great performer!!!

read up on the many review of 6600gt card and you will see what i mean.

I promise you that 3400 for a 128bit card is correct. Strange that it doesnt go up when ocd tho.

nvidiaOCmaster i cant get clocks that high and mines an agp so wont perform quite so well

Can i see a screenie of your page at futuremark showing that result? You must be up there at the top with a score like that!

Edit: Time for me to eat humble pie!!!! had a look at results myself and realised that the amd64 score for the cards are a lot higher than for my cpu/chipset so the card is being restricted by my cpu. So i gues i aint the right person to be advising you....sorry!! I had previously only looked at 32 bit athlon scores....silly me.

On the plus side it give me even more motivation to get this old tech machine running even faster!!!

sorry again and hope you get it sorted

i still have my leadtek 6600GT that i scored 4900 stock with, ill benchmark it tomorrow when i get home from work. that 4900 was on a fresh install of windows now so i assume its gonna drop 100-200 cause i got so much junk installed. wierg thing ive found though is when i overclock my score doesnt go up much, i overclocked from stock 1.8ghz to 3.1ghz and score went up 100 points and then overclocked video card as far as it could without artifacts and it got another 50 points.

whats a good program these days for overclocking nvidia cards? i normally use coolbits but that doesnt seem to be working with my dads card so maybe ill try something else see if that helps.

i use rivatuner. You acn also use the latest version of ati tool believe it or not!!! I found rivatuner will only let it go upto abot 580/1125 but with ati tool i can get it upto 600/1200 with no artifacts. Dont trust the artifact scanner built into it tho as it isnt too trustworthy. Just remember to keep an eye on the temps!!!
