Hey guys, I had to tell yall, these cards HAVE to be defective. My first one I oced a little bit, but had an artic cooler installed. It started artifacting after a few days. I RMAd it and they sent me a new one. I didnt even put it in my computer before I installed the artic cooler this time thinking I fried the ram last time. I dont have this new one overclocked and the temps do not get over 50c. This one is about 2 weeks old now. Anyway last night playing one of my flightsims I noticed some strange shadows and then BAM, it hard locks with the funky colors all over the screen. Now it is randomly locking up..... this sucks... I liked this card. My temp logger showed the temps were 49c so I know it isnt overheating. I guess this one is fried too now....DAMN!

i have two 7900 gs i torture tested them o/c for 72 hours each after hearing that they could be defective. both cards passed with flying colors. but i know one of the cards i have came out of a brand new dell, still looking into the other one.
these things o/c well on the stock cooler. could it be that when u unplug that fan msi riged the card to fail?

Welcome to the forums dschonauer

OT: Its most likely not defective since your running it OUT of manufacturer specs. may i suggest that you take your time in overclocking slowly and follow this excellent guide http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=398013. Take your time in OC'ing, as I too wooted one of these cards and i'm able to use it perfectly fine at stock and autodetect settings. However, you could lose all your headaches, by sticking to stock settings.

My friend had the exact same problem. It turned out to be his mobo which was screwed up.

you may have to take a look there.
