View Full Version : Need Gaming Mouse
I dropped my mx1000 one too many times and now it skipps all over the place and is acting retarded....the signal is messed up. SO, I will be purchasing a new mouse soon. Im thinking of getting this one

What do you guys think? I need it to be good for mostly FPS's. (and cordless)
it looks sexy as hell, but costs so much!

The G5 is nice, but not cordless. I had an MX1000, and didn't look back once I got the G5. If your cordless requirment is even vaguely negotiable, definately check it out.
I haven't used a Revoultion yet, however, I strongly recommend you handle one at a store before dropping down the bucks for it. I did, and found it's thumb wheel to be clumsy and ackward - at least for me. I didn't like the way it felt at all. Felt like they were trying too hard to make it look better instead of comfortable. But that's purely my opinion, it felt very well built and the features seem to be pretty nice other then that.
will the mouse I showed be alright for gaming? or @ least similar to my mx1000 in gaming? I liked this mouse a lot, but I dont want to downgrade to a g5, I figure that if Im going to buy something new....it may as well be better than what I had? right?

yeah its pretty nice. Personally, I'm a big fan of the CyberSnipa mouse. Although its not wireless it IS designed for gaming like all their stuff. Check it out at www.cybersnipa.com

I vote logitech g5. I'm on my seconded one. The left click went bad on mine and I called Logitech Support and told them everything I tried to troubleshoot the problem and they sent me one free. Good feel and I can't live without the on the fly sensitivity.
The G7 is wireless. Good mouse.

Oh my god....that mouse is easily my next pick for my next system, seeing as it's already got that carbon fiber look, which is sweet.
Thanks mage_x.

Yeah just make sure you get the Carbon colored one ... the 2 tone is hideous.

I have a G7... ANd a G5... And a Razer Plasma LE... And I'm getting a Logitech Trackball for work.
I love my G7, it's lovely, but I know people who swear by trackballs(Gamers even! The guy pwns me with a trackball!!!)

Trackballs aren't as good as mice for gaming. Period.
Think about it logically.

I have, which is why I'm considering it,
COnsider: if you have a 2000dpi mouse(As I do) and you have the windows settings/ game settings to 1:1 ratio, you barely move your hand at all, it's flicks of the wrist, etc.
Your hand is designed for larger movements(which is why most gamers use lower sensitivity and use lots of space) while your fingers are designed for small, accurate movements.
Admittedly, we all feel that a mouse is more natural, but that's because we've been using it for years.
Anyway, anything is worth a shot ;) my accuracy sucks ;)

Not enough, apparently.
If I just moved it, and my thumb is at the bottom of the ball, but I suddenly need to make a move to the left, I have to move my thumb up without touching the ball, then move back down to actually move.
You're telling me that's faster than just moving? I'm sorry for your friend, but you can tell him that though he's really good with a trackball - he could be better.

The only thing I find lacking in the G5/ G7 mice is that there is only one thumb button... that is why I still have my old mx510, just waiting for mx518 to go on sale locally again.

The g5 is great for its price and performance, but like everyone else mentioned, it lacks extra buttons. But if that is not very important to you, then the g5 is an awesome mouse.

I run into the same problem with my mouse, I run out of space up, or left, or right, so I have to pick up the entire mouse, move it the opposite direction, and put it back down and move it the direction I wanted to move it towards.

Then you're not sensitive enough. Even while gaming I switch my DPI down, I still don't move more than 2-3 inches.

Mine is more from the fact that my hand migrates over periods of time ;). As I play games, my hand begins moving from the bottom of my desk up towards the top, or vice versa.
With a trackball, if it's sensitivity is high enough, you shouldn't have to worry about having your fingers too far to the bottom.

I would go for the G7. I, however, got a G5 because it was £10 cheaper and highly recomend it to anyone. In fact, I convinced two friends to go out and buy it :p
G5 with a long USB extension cable. Oh-so sexy smooth movement, I never notice the wire unless I'm looking at it, and no interruption of signal at inconvenient times. Also, the wheel has nice chunky clicks so you won't scroll past your intended weapon playing fps's.

Actually, that's my biggest problem with my G5. I tr and middle mouse click, and it scrolls. Drives me nuts! lol

Mine did that when it was new but now for some reason I can click it over and over without accidental scrolling. I guess it's broken in?

Dunno, I changed my technique and it's now just a random occurance. Doesn't happen all the time...
well, I went to circut city today, picked up a Logitech MX revolution for a minimal proce of $105 (tax included) and so far, when I touch it, it makes me horny. No jk, but really, this mouse is sooo sexy, build quality is superb. the battery lights **fade** instead of just turning on & off when the mouse is in use or not in use. Like I said, my mx1000 broke, so I was used to the feel of it, especially the deep thumb position in the mouse. The revolution felt more like the mx1000 than the g5, which felt like I was holding a rubber blob. I played css a little bit with it, its pretty good, its actually lighter than the mx1000, and smaller too. I havent used it to its fullest functionality yet, but im sure it is what logitech says it is: "the most advanced mouse in the world"

Hows the battery life ? There are many different opinions on the longevity of the G7 batteries which is kinda scaring me off . Btw , which model is yours , green or black ; as it seems the newer black one may have better battery life .
I have a MX700 that still works great after four years , and I just won a G5 from xfire but have not used it as its not cordless .
Ive been debating on the G7 but like mentioned the battery life thing is holding me back from a purchase .
Buy.com has a pretty good deal going on the G7 thats making things very tempting atm.
My brother uses a MX1000 and Ive used that in BF2 (on his rig) , and found it to be an xint mouse also .
Comment or suggestions from any and all are invited ...
TIA :)
