I noticed there are only a handfull of mobos that support full 16x in both channels when running SLI. How much of a difference does it make?

I think the only time you'd need 16x lanes is for 7950x2 situation with 2 cards in each slot...

To be honest with you the X16 is like a sales gimmick. In terms of pipe bandwidth your most likely not going to choke as much versus the 8X pci-express lanes. In reality from what I heard that we are not even fully tapping into the 8X lanes. So unless your part of the "Must have" group then I'd just go with the 2X 8X SLI lanes.

Wouldnt the amount of "lanes" you need depend on the application and not the hardware?

I have the ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe which is a 16x/16x board. I had a couple of 7800GT's before the 7950GX2. I saw no real difference in coming from a standard SLi board to the 16x/16x with the 7800's. Maybe a few points in 3DMark but, nothing to write home about.

Only going to need it with something like 2x 7950 dual cores... It will be good for the future but for it is not needed. Went from an 8x board to a 16x board and saw no difference at all with 7800 GTs
