the best prie verses performance heatsink at the moment is the sk6, but the best is the swiftech and then there is the other option of water cooling...

thats what I use on my Xp and it dropped my temp. by 4-6C over stock and am very happy bout that. Hey, its not the best but for the price its great

i am useing the 6cu + a bit loud , but it works well for its price. right now my case temps r 22/71 and my cpu is @ full load 42/107 runing 1.85 Vcore 900 @ 1131

I would prefer to see you use the MC462-A. It lowered my temps 4 degree over the Volcano 6cu+ (which if someone wants to pay me 15.00 plus shipping, they can have! LOL)
They are both rather noisy, but all in all, the MC462-A from Swiftech works better.
Safer mounting too...
Its all good...
I have that EXACT hs - it is wonderfull! it dropped my temps considerably over my slightly better than OEM hs I bought off of ubid.com .... if you want a cheap way of getting respectable temps.. than I would look here
I run my 1G Athlon @ 1.3G and it is at 114F under load with this hs.
I will be stepping up to a more expensive Copper when I get home but it is NOT becuase of the lack of ability by this hs - GET IT!!!
Make sure your using ASII also ... that helped even more about a week or so after applying it - it dropped my temps again.
be careful with that 6cu+ ..I know 2 people that have sliced their fingers open with it.
-Neco.
I had a Volcano II and then went to the 6cu+ and took something like 8c off my temps. A couple of times I ran the system without the fan connected and the oversized sink with copper bottom saved my cpu. The last time I ran the thing for about an hour with just passive cooling (case fans) and the system finally crashed (after an hour!!!!!). When I rebooted my temps were something like 59c, not good, but under the circumstances comparitively great.

but realy folks , its fricking loud !!!
id go with a glaciator II if u can
or use the 6cu+ and duct a 80,92,120 MM fan down to it from the side of the case , ill be tryin this shortly. i just have to get my hands on a 3 1/2 inch hole saw, or some more dremal blades:cool:

It isn't 'THAT' loud
completely within tolerances.....

I guess it all depends on a few factors... Cost, sound and cooling ability. The Swifttech MC462-A cools the best, but sounds about the same as the volcano, the volcano ($29.00) is ALOT cheeper than the MC462-A ($60.00). The Glaciator is quieter than both and cools nicely, but still less (slightly) than the MC462-A.
I say go with the facts and stats and do what is most comfortable for you.
Its all good....

ok thank for all the tips.
for now i think i will go with the Volcano 6cu+ because of the price then change to water cooling in a few months.
Is the Volcano 6cu+ a good amount better then the retail HS/F on the AMD XP's?

yes the volcano 6Cu+ will be 6-10C cooler than the AMD hs at least, and the Volcano6Cu+ is not 30$ its like 20 at www.svcompucycle.com, they also have a Gladiator imitation(all copper) for like 15$ and that cools better than the 6Cu+....

It'll be $30 for him, he's paying with Canadian money. I know of at least two places in Toronto you can get it for $32Can, if you can't find anything close to that and are near Toronto let me know, I'll tell you where to look.

Yes but not insanely so. Delta's are louder.
