View Full Version : New driver not work so well...

I downloaded the latest nVidia driver for my 7800GT (91.47), and it didn't do so well. It's not that there were any issues with the driver I was using (81.98), I just wanted to update the driver. I uninstalled the old one, went to safe mode, ran the driver cleaner and installed the new one. Should've worked, right?
When I played a game, it seemed fine, but upon playing a DVD, the video was all F'd up. The screen was dark, the colors were to intense and way off, and the video itself was artifacting big time. I tried adjusting the colors in that new interface that came with the newer driver, but I didn't have a lot of luck with that. In fact, the new interface was lagging my whole system. I would think that the DVD would just play normally, but it didn't. So...I just restored my system and got the other driver back, and now everything is fine.

now this driver uses the new control panel, but you can go to view and select to use the classic control panel.

I believe there is a DVD playback issue with some of the newer NVIDIA drivers, and as lifted stated you can select the classic view.

I used the release driver available a week or so ago when I put XP on this box, and my video playback was very dark. I thought it was a codec issue so I uninstalled/reinstalled various codec packs 3 or 4 times but finally realized it just... wasn't. It's the drivers.
I didn't know what to do other than adjust the brightness and color settings for the video overlay. =/

I didn't think about codecs when I was having the issue, but unless nVidia can resolve the DVD playback issue, I'm not sure if I'm going to trust to download drivers in the future (even though I know I may have to, and hopefully by then they'll have fixed it). If I change my video card itself to some succesive generation, I hope I don't have the same problem with the driver. I use PowerDVD, so I hope that in itself isn't part of the problem - up until now, it hasn't been.
I tried using the new driver interface to fix the TV/Video settings, and I also tried using the PDVD configuration to fix it, and in either case, I got no results.
Lifted...is that Linux you're showing in your cap? I've never seen it, if that's what it is. BTW...cool 3DM score!

I have had issues with this driver locking dvd playback and I am using nVidia's Pure Video decoder!!! I went back to 8X.XX drivers. I also had some SLI performance issues with the 9X.XX drivers. I am waiting for them to fix em up a little before I move to em...

get the tweakrus version of the driver. The tweaks make it looks so much better. Even better than the original 92.91!

Where would I find this tweaked version of the driver? And looks aside, does it work better?
@Lifted...
No worries - I thought you had Linux because of the different looking task bar. It looks pretty cool, anyway!

Where do you get that theme from? I checked in my "Themes" list under "Browse themes online", and just got some kind of page with a server error message. I was thinking I could find something there, but no luck.
