I plan to install my lapped blue orb today w ramsinks. Need to step out and grab some ASII and my ramsinks.

If I let 3Dmark2001 loop the benchmark for like 1-2hrs will this heat the card up enough so I can just twist the heatsink off easily??

I do not want to do the freezer and bag method. Also after hooking up the orb should I connect the blue orb power cord to the video card or use the power supply?

Let the surgery begin

You MIGHT be able to free the heatsink after a warmup, the only guaranteed method I know of is the freezer trick...

The power off the video card should be sufficient if it's the smaller blue orb (not the full sized for cpus).

i used the warm up methd, but i did it on a geforce2, that radeon shouldnt get anywhere near as hot as mine was...

Personally, I wouldn't use the on-card power. I think its too anemic, and you might end up blowing resistors on the card and/or the header thingy. Use the on-board power, it'll be safer.

Some of us overclockers need these for other things ;) ...

Use either a 3 to 4 pin converter and plug it into the PSU. Either that or use a fan header on the mobo. I dont recommend putting it on the cards header.

Well got the heatsink/fan off just by pruing with a tiny screwdriver, it came off quite easy.

Installed my lapped and shiny Blue Orb with some heastsink compound and few drops of suoerglue.

Card runs 240/240 no prob and loops 3Dmark2001. I have not installed the ramsinks yet plan to tonight, and I have scored a 4180 at 1024x768 32 bit.

A little increase there not much yet over the stock fan/heatsink. I will install the ramsinks and give it a good burn in with 3D mark2001 and some UT. Then we will see what I finish up with and I will post results.

Hope the ramsinks help me out a little, really wanna crack 4300/4400.

Just curious did you make the RAM sinks or did you purchase them. If you made them how did you do it?

Where did you end up plugging that fan anyway?

Good job with the OC. I wish you luck getting higher, you're already at the max I've seen for that card.

Well I plugged the fan into the psu , and I bought the ramsinks for cheap, just wonder if I should have used thermal paste and superglue to attach them rather than thermal tape.

I got 238/238 outa the card stable withjust the Blue Orb, and it will go higher I just did not have time, trying to see if I can tie Quizno or beat his 246/246. Probably gonna through a Vantec Slot cooler into the case as well for cheap, it should help out...

Where can I find some RAM sinks? Do they have them at any of the reputable resellers?

I got some at Radio Shack. 2 to a box for like $1.50.

No tape or anything with them but they do the same job if you use thermal compound and superglue or some AS Epoxy.

Fit percectly over video card memory too...only come in black though (might find plain aluminum).

Great. Thanks I'll have to make a trip over to Rshack in the future.
