I used a powersupply calculator, and it says under 100% psu I would need 649Watts of power. Will a 600Watt power supply cut it?

not if 100% you are over that I think..

What are your parts? We might be better able to tell if we knew what they are.

I'm having a hard time imagining a desktop system drawing that much power, what are your planned system specs?

Yea, 649 watts is alot even for a SLI rig...

powersupply calculators tend to overrate each device by quite a bit so they're safe recommending a supply with a lot more power than you need, what are your specs?

The specs of my planned system: (I'm just missing 1 videocard after this week).

1 x AMD Athlon FX-55
2 x 1GB DDR550
2 x geforce7950 GX2
2 x DVD RW
1 x Floppy
4 x Case Fans
4 x USB Devices
1 x Sound Blaster Audigy 2 w/ Front Bay Thing
8 x Cold Cathodes (not on... light controller)
1 x Light Controller
1 x Card Reader
1 x Vapochill Control Board
1 x Mouse (Wireless - plugged into wall)
1 x Keyboard
1 x Asus A8N Sli-Deluxe

I think that is it... the videocards are the power hogs.

Is kingwin a good PSU company?

Yeah, there is a lot of stuff in that machine consuming power...

But if it works okay, then I wouldn't worry much, unless you start overclocking. You can always use a DMM and check your 3.3v, 5v, and 12v voltages.

I don't know about KingWin, but I've heard nothing but good things about Sparkle, Zippy, and PC Power & Cooling. Enermax is pretty good, too.

I've found for about the same price I can get an Antec Trio 650Watt PSU. =( It won't have sleaving though... sigh...

Antec is good.

Is kingwin a good PSU company?

No, far from it. Better plan to spend a minimum of $150 for a 600w PSU or all your expensive hardware will be in danger.

Save yourself some possible headaches and go over THIS (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=458204) thread carefully, pretty much all you need to know on the subject of choosing a PSU can be found there.

Look at it this way.

Why would you spend so much for all your good gear and then try to save on the thing that powers it.

Spend the money and you wont have to fear that the PSU will suddenly decide that it needs to be a paperweight instead (while taking other gear with it).

The only time the PSU approaches 100% use is at startup. You can get a 700w OCZ Gamexstream for 150.00.

I saw that OCZ... very sexy. What do you guys think about mushkin? Prefferably this one:

Quad rails sounds awesome!

I don't get why you are putting FX55 with a GX2?

=) What would you put it with... I'm open to suggestions!

If you are truely drawing that much power, which I doubt, you might as well go after the best. Look into the PC Power & Cooling 750 silencer or any of their large power supplies.

=\ Yeah, it is what the calculator said.
