Im building a system and the last parts i need should be getting here by thursday. Ive read around and apparently people have been getting high temps with the stock fan.

My question is, do i need to buy another cooler or is the stock alright? Im only making this thread b/c ive read many diferent things form different people.

Oh yeah, 1st post Hi EVERYONE!

It depends on if you plan to overclock it or not. If your not overclocking it, I'd say you don't need it, but it wouldn't hurt either way.

What would you suggest for overclocking then? Im new to OCing and might not do it for a while, but it does interest me.

So its 100% safe to run this chip at stock configuration with the stock fan?

It will be perfectly fine. By the way, did you used to run a UT2004 server called Manowars?

If so,

what kinda temps in TAT are ppl gettin with their stock coolers on the C2D's? cus my friend has a E6300 and is gettin in upwards of 80*C on both cores IDILING which is INSANE... im going over to his house tommorrow to see whats up with a tube of AS5 in hand lol. considering my E6600 sits at 41 and 39*C with a low speed 120mm fan @ 6volts sittin on my Ultra 120 i think the stock cooler would be able to cool alil better... hell i think rainless is overclocking his on stock cooling with no probs.....

im using stock cooler and auto voltage....at 3ghz, with as5, my temps in TAT dont go over 63c (highest ive seen) if I overclock more, it goes over 65c, which is not safe. If you are overclocking, buy a cooler.

This is the OC forums, I thought it was mandatory to OC or you get hunted down and killed?

Bah, OC is so yesterday. I'm UC. :-D

Welcome to the forums OP. If you decide to OC I would think about a new cooler if your temps go past 60C.

lol UC = underclock? Heretic!

Anyway, the stock cooler should be fine for stock speeds. Intel and AMD don't send out stock coolers that won't work for that purpose :) If you want to OC significantly yea you'd be best off with an aftermarket cooler. But some people can do moderate OCs even with the stock HSF and be ok especially if they don't raise the voltage, you will just need decent case cooling to keep the air circulating.

If they followed microsoft's business plan they would.

Your friend didn't put his fan on correctly. A very common problem because the intel fan is VERY hard to put on correctly.
