I decided to upgrade my PC. I decided to do it one piece at a time. Or as near to one piece at a time as I could get. Purchased a new vid card, CD-RW, and whatever else short of the new motherboard, I looked long and hard at motherboards and decided on the Tyan TH7II-R board. It had things that I loved and things that I could do without. I chose P4 because I wanted to rebuild my liquid cooled PC and an article on P4 ability to avoid burn out was the deciding factor.

After an interesting article about contract renegotiations between Intel and the Rhambus manufacture. That article cast a shady light on the Rhambus based board. So like a dork, I went down to my local A-hole computer emporium. After wasting thirty minutes arguing with the local idiot sales-clerks there I was shown two pathetic 478-socket boards. One with DDR support, the other with Rhambus. So rather than waste another hour arguing with those morons so they can show me the latest AMD boards, I left.

So now, I'm here digging for opinions. What boards do you have your eye on? Mind you, this PC will be built from "scratch" there will be no software that I will attempt to "carry over" no extrenous HD data that needs to be salvaged. The only Hardware that will be carried over. Notice? No need for ISA slots (YAY! Finally!). I'll need as many PCI slots to pack in though.

Plextor 16/10/40A CD-RW
PNY GF3 Ti-500
SB Live! (Will eventually be dropped in favor of the SB model with the front face plate access)
Linksys 10/100 NIC (will be dropped if MB supports a NIC)
A hacked Antec case.

The old PC will be converted into a Storage server to sit in the closet.

So what am I looking for? Well, I'm flexible. The TH7II-R is a good indication of what I'm looking for. I could do without the built in sound junk and perhaps a board that supports dual CPU's. There will be at least four drives. One with Windows (XP? GAG!), another with Linux and drives 3 and 4 to be RAID for a neutral area for storage. SCSI, IDE I don't care. RAM type matters if Rhambus becomes taboo, I'm not interested in being stuck with a crap board that becomes too difficult and costly to add RAM.

So uh, what boards do you guys have your eye on?
