I was wondering how well xp would perform on my dads celeron 400 hp with 128mb of memory.
Anyone have experience with an older machine and xp?
Thanks
Joey
Edit- Also, if I install xp using the ntfs file system will I be able to open documents and things that were made on his computer on a comp that is using fat 32?

my comp, check my sig, is running XP, and I have already tried it with only 128MB, and still worked rock solid. It's not a Celeron 400, but only a couple MHz faster, which shouldn't cause a problem.
for your Edit, yes, NTFS can read FAT32, but FAT32 cannot access a NTFS drive. So if you're not using another OS on the FAT32 drive, it won'T cause a problem

if I want to read a document that was made on his computer on my computer, which is using fat32, I would be able to do that right?
And is it possible that his modem might not be recognized by windows xp?
Win XP should run fine on his computer, I just installed it on a PII 333 and it runs with no problems. You may want to add another 128 or 256meg of memory since it is cheap.
There is a good chance that his modem may not be supported by XP. That is why you should run the Update Advisor prior to installing XP.
As for the file system issue. I upgraded to xp from 98, thus, I have xp on a fat32 drive. I also have an ntfs drive which I can now read (having installed xp). As far as I know, xp is compatable with both ntfs and fat32.

XP has a good bunch of built-in drivers, older or newer. I didn't have to install 1 single driver for my comp, and it wasn't that old, plus it had some strange "Compaq" stuff ! So depends how old the modem is
