Well I have an old 486 computer that the CMOS battery has gone dead in. Unfortunately it is not the regular watch type battery, it is a black plastic 3.6volt one about 2 inches long. Why I have no idea, even my old 286 has a regualar watch style battery in it!

I have looked around and have found some replacements, but the stores want like $20 shipped for one and I only paid $20 for the whole computer, mainly for the 32X cd-rom it had.

It is kinda a pain to reset the bios and hardrives everytime I start it up to play Leisure Suit Larry or Strip Poker;)

Does anyone know where I could get this battery cheap?

Is there some sort of hack I could do and hook up something else?

An old 486 of mine had a battery that was actually soldered on to the mobo, no there was no changing it...

Anyway, I guess I am not sure what kind of battery you are talking about, any pics, or a link?

My first suggestion would be for you to either not mess with it, and just leave it on...

It isn't soldered on, it has a 3 pin plug.

Here is what it looks like:

I would just leave it on, though. A 486 isn't worth it...

Thanks, that first place wants $4 to ship it:)

I am going to try the "Shack" tommorrow to see if I can get just the bare battery and solder the old plug on:)

I would just forget about it, but I like to play my older games on that machine and the only thing that bothers me is reseting everything everytime I turn it on.

If I can find it for under $5 I will get it, but I am not going to pay $15 for it:)

Thanks again!
