I just started to experience a problem. When I am playing a game, my rig will just shut down. Just like i pulled the plug out of the wall. Would you think this is a PSU issue? I kinda do, but I also know it COULD be my motherboard. Both are listed in my sig
P.S. I ordered a new PSU (not here yet) to just test it and this one is only a month or 2 old so i can send it back. Ordered 700W same model this time. Same with the motherboard it's new I can send it back and get another also.

Thanks for any input you can give.

What kinda cooling do you have? It could be a overheating issue.

The CPU is the stock cooling but it runs 43 C under MAX load. I have alot of fans lol Motherboard gets up to 40 under max load

It doesnt have to be just the cpu overheating that causes a heat related shutdown. Is your ram getting hot as well?

It's good RAM check my sig. And it's only running at 230 mhz. I have no idea what program to use to check ram temp.

i had the same thing happen to me but mine was around every half hour or so. mine ended up bieng the psu. it was maxing out and shutting down or restarting the computer. took me a while before i thought the psu was gone. tried a nother psu and the problem was gone. i guess try that and see if it is psu. barrow one from your friend if you can or if you have an extra one, swap it out.

First, I would update your BIOS for your motherboard just to make sure that's not the problem, then I would open up your Mobo utility to check your 12V rail while playing a game. If it's fluctuating, or too low, or even too high, it's a PSU problem and you can send it back.

Ok... BIOS updated.. but i did notice something a little new.. My CPU is running 35c and my motherboard is a 44 right now. 44 is a bit hot for just sitting here with pretty much nothing running wouldn't you think?

Another thing to consider ...what game are you running? My GF's rig would do the same thing...but only when she was running City of Hereos. Anything else and it was just fine. There are more than hardware issues that can cause this. The first thing to do is make sure that windows is set to not automatically reboot on a crash. then you can see if it is software or hardware related.

System Properties--->advanced--->Startup and recovery settings--->uncheck automatically restart.

hope that helps you nail the prob down.

edit Oh and for those who will say that this would cause his sys to reboot everytime...remeber that this is windows working under stress...it has issues sometimes.

It doesn't even reboot it shuts OFF. Now more power no more lights. Just like i pulled the plug from the wall. I called ASUS and asked them about my mobo temp and they say it is fine. And the game I'm running is Counter Strike Source. If I can't play that game i might as well send this video card back. Sell my processor and use my old socket A that I used for a very long time that still runs pretty freaking good :bang head . My new PSU should be here tomorrow so I guess I'll find out then.

How much variation should there be?

I was having a similar problem with an old build of mine when I played WoW. I'd check to see how you have everything set up. Have your fans run off different molex's than your HDD, optical, and everything else. That fixed the problem for me. I guess the problem with mine was too much juice being sucked from one rail.

Tried sticking room ran at the side with case open.(really low temp) Unplugged my floppy ,CD, DVD, 2 fans (that were plugged into motherboard) and my backup HDD. Fired up an exe of prime and 3dmark05. Jumped in the shower I come back out and it is OFF again. GRRRRR :bang head :bang head :bang head

I checked ASUS PC Probe II and my 12v reading there moves a little from about 12.28 to 12.45. This is not with a game running. How much variation should there be?

How much variation should there be I think for a 12v rail it shouldn't be more then 1/2 a volt.
