Ok, you unzipped it...then you copied it to a floppy? Right?

It really should work, mine does...

Also, what about booting from the CD? Why does that not work?

yes, unzipped it and installed it to a floppy. Let it run to an A drive disk....

Prob is I need to reinstall windoz 98, and booting from the CD crashes. Need to re-set registry for the XP chip in windoz.(So I have been told)
I can't get the XP chip to boot into Windoz. Hence the reason to reinstall.
I hope this is making some sence. I have never before had to do this for a cpu change. I have tried all sorts of combos in the BIOS set up to get it to work, including default settings.
Gets right up to the point where it should load, and it stalls. So, I figured the chip was: too low on voltage, too high on Multiplier, too high on the FSB (default is 133), apparently I just need to reinstall windoz and it should reset the registry and run fine. Oh BTW, yes I did flash the BIOS for the XP support before I tried this all. Had my Duron in at that time and it worked fine. :eh?:

Well, I know that boot disk works...

Unplug your hard drive, and try it. You should at least be able to boot to a prompt...

sounds like your PSU can't power it or the CPU is too hot. What type of PSU you got?

you can't boot from the 98cd alone

to make a boot disk, go to your DOS prompt and type:

format a: /s

and this will create your boot disk for you

oh ya, make sure there is a floppy in the floppy drive

Sitting here @ DOS prompt. no CD driver installed.

How did you get to the prompt?

That boot disk should have a good enough cd driver to install. Maybe the CD Drive is the prob...

Just ocurred to me. I think that boot disk installs your cd drive on some crazy letter like "R" or some other letter way off...

Look for which letter it installs to...That "Banana" thing sounds familiar to me now.

Format a:/s then rebooted.

Than boot disk I made B4 had a "Funky" cd driver on it. PIO4  seen it but never used it, now I know Y. The standard Oak technoloigies cd driver is the one I need on the disk.
I got the chip out now. And am ready to go back to the store and get a T-Bird 1.4

It puts the drivers or whatever it installs to the drive letter immediatly after your hard drives.

last drive letter is...ah, I:\ cd would be J:\
It wasn't there. putting it back together right now. will try other letters and get the generic Oak driver from the CD.

It didn't do that for me...

I remember being confused...but then I looked at which drive letter had been assigned.

It was strange but true.
