Hello again everyone...
Anyone have a link on how to build a peltier?? Looking to save a couple bucks... I know I'm cheap... but there's also the knowledge of experimentation:D
hmmm...while I think it would be pretty easy to build one that works, it would be very hard to build one that is as effective as a store-bought one.
read about how they work here:

and

Dansdata.com rocks:)
honestly, a decent one of any wattage shouldn't run you more that $25 or so. I'd just go with the sure thing. Still could be a fun project tho!
Note, this is my standard reply to pelt questions. The two Dan's Data links in the following post have already been supplied by Monster of Rock.
You can read some of my experiences with pelts here. (http://forums.overclockers.ws/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=14276)
IMHO, I would start with a start with a watercooled system first. Once you have it dialed in, then consider using pelts. Adding pelts to the equation without some basic watercooling experience usually just confuses things.

If you have a cpu over a gig and u need to use a peltier you will need to watercool it, not really worth it when you consider all the condensation you wil get I would stick to watercooling...

Watercooling seems a little expensive for me and I can't find a slot 1 waterblock anywhere... so I'd probably end up making the waterblock myself... all in all I want a watercooling system... but it will take some time for me to do... that's where I decided to get (or build if I could) a peltier... thanks for the lookout guys... I think I'll just buy a peltier for now (not install, just buy) then work on setting up a watercooling system. I can stand air cooling for a little while longer:p My temps never go over 104 F. Thanks again:)

Watercooling is dangerous enough but using a peltier.....I mean you can get condensation on the BACK of the board... not worth it.
You need a really good power supply to un it, you'll need a 220watt peltier for best effect though.

Well... this all pretty much blows the peltier idea out the window... except for one... a radio shack pelt for the P3 here http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F003%5F006%5F004%5F000&product%5Fid=900%2D8565
Except the price it "looks" nifty :)
whoa man, don't get the wrong idea! Pelts would be a pain to make, but pre-made ones can be very effective! They aren't a magic cooling solution, getting one working can be a pain, but the reward is usually worth it.
I say buy a bare pelt and a decent HSF to cool it with, and start playing around. You can use a pelt on a CPU without water cooling if your HSF is good enough. Water cooling a pelt is not absolutely essential, but it is recommended.
BTW, that RS pelted-HSF is a disaster waiting to happen. The fan and sink themselves are barely able to keep up with a non-overclocked P3's heat production, let alone the waste heat from the pelt. Better to get a pelt from them and an HSF somewhere else. ( I used to work at Radio Shack, we played with those HSF a few times, that's how I know.)

The hsf that I have now is pretty good... it looks like this http://www.provantage.com/scripts/go.dll/magnify//ANTE19Q.GIF
It has a good heatsink and my temps never go over 105 F (overclocked and full load) so I figured maybe a 80 watt pelt between the hsf and proc would kick some butt... I just don't want to deal with condensation... :p
Any pelt that has enough umph to cool your CPU effectively is going to require condensation prevention. While I have not pelted a PIII, I know several very good overclockers that have done this sucessfully with an 80 watt pelt and a HSF.

I don't remember where I read it but someone said no more than 80 watts was necessary for a p3... Maybe I'll try it... where would I find the cheapest price for an 80 watt pelt?
