by FAR the best card for 300 or under would be a 7900gto.
it is like an underclocked 7900gtx that is only a hair worse. and for 250 bucks it is almsot half the cost of a 7900gtx. it is also the 3rd best nvidia card made (behind the 7950gx2 and the 7900gtx)
there is a thread about it in teh nvidia section

I second the 7900GTO. If you had 400 bucks (which you don't) and a killer power supply, and if I was a completely different person, I would recommend the X1950XTX which is sort of like Thor's hammer (the new... metrosexual... "Ultimate Series" Thor's hammer), but it costs almost five hundred bucks. If I could WIN a card at random, I'd want it to be that one. As far as buying a card? GTO all the way.
