The ThermoEngine V60-4225
or
The Globalwin WBk 38

Both with either a 7volt or 12 volt delta (switch)

Which is best for 1. 1ghz T-Bird
2. My new 1900+ or 2000+ XP?
The only thing with the ThermoEngine V60-4225 is the bottom of it is smaller so there will be more pressure on the Core, so will a shim not work???
Oh and the ThermoEngine V60-4225 is lapped.....

the thermo engine does work with a shim, i used it on my shim before i you got it, there is a comparitive review here just compare the cfm and remeber to look at the thermoengine with the ys-thch which is equal to the delta http://www.dansdata.com/coolercomp.htm

the thermo engine gets 0.57c/w and the wbk gets 0.65c/w (lower is better) also here http://www.spodesabode.com/view.php?pageid=coolerround2 the same results

Just because the Thermoengine has a smaller bottom does not mean there will be more pressure. It will still only contact the CPU on its core just like any other HSF so pressure will be the same with any HSF that has a similar clip tension. If I were you take a look at some other HSFs out there that would have at least a .30C/W.

both are a bit dated. there are a bunch of better hsfs around now: glaciator II, new pal, thermalright sk6, etc.

if it's one of the two though, there's a lot to be said for a cooler that doesn't sound like a jet engine like the fop38 does. the delta's noise really does get a bit much after a while, believe me. i'd go for the thermoengine out of the two.

the thermo engine still performs well, only 2degrees worse them my water cooling with the delta at 7 volts

jeez. i think you better do something about your watercooling then! what cpu are you running?

I am with proze, the thermoengine was a good cooler for a while, but never anywhere near watercooling(and that was with crappy blocks!).

i love my thermo, i get the temps you see below so it must be working well, it has a ys-tech fan on it (38cfm)

Whats the best (cheapest hsf) and are the 80mm ones better than the 60mm copper ones? Oh and hows the £65 one from overclockingstore says it 800 grams...or kg

my water cooling has a load of 29degrees celcus, my thermo engine never went above 31, that is my duron at 1000MHz @ 1.8v

oh and here http://www.overclockers.com/articles373/ the delta with thermoengine beats the cak and swiftec mcx370

there's no way a thermoengine is gonna gives you temps that low unless it's damn cold in your computer room. remember that you're using the insocket thermistor, and with the thermoengine's fin arrangement i'd imagine it cools the motherboard around the socket a lot!! i've used a bunch of heatsinks on my duron, and a full load temp of 31C is very, very ambitious.

it's intruiging, though.

proze: i have 3 120mm ys-tec fans, 2 80mm deltas all were running at 12 volts and i have my windows open all year round. i also live in england, it has been around 6 degrees celcus around here

So you have an Avatar at last!!! You just knicked that from somewhere didn't you? Why not get one with water flowing through a water block and blowing up....

On to the main subject though if I get a stock HSF to with my mums new 1gig (its i a s*** board which won't oc at all!!!) I would have a spare WBK 38 could I use it on my 8500? Or would the weight destroy it, I don't want any risks....:)

Cheers,
Nick:cool:

nick_cw.. i dunno mate, the wbks pretty damn big. too big an' heavy to put on a vid card, imho. i wouldn't be comfy. but people have put golden orbs and such on vid cards before, and i doubt the wbk is much heavier than that. it's a thought...

How far will it go to on stock cooling?

300/600 and whats the furthest it has reached before...?

too many varyables to work out probable overclock, i have a fop32 0n my graphics card, i had to cut it down and their is not really much point a better idea would be a small socket 370 or 7 heatsink
