I've found that booting to a GUI login prompt is not good. It's possible that changing your setup so that you boot to the "naked" CLI prompt will let you start Black Box up. 'Fraid I don't know how to change this in Mandrake, sorry.

actually i HAVE had it to not startx automatically. i had to create an .xinitrc file and add "exec /usr/local/bin/blackbox" to the file. then when i rebooted i would just do "startx" and blackbox would start. i just dont know how to start the other window managers. i use kde mostly. i just thought trying it the 1st way i mentioned would be easier.

For kde, I'd expect that you'd just need to exec kwm and konqueror, and then you'd have most of the kde environment.

There should be a script somewhere called "startkde"
Simply add the line:
startkde
to the .xinitrc

I'm not sure how KDM works, because I find GDM to be nicer, but for GDM you just add a script in /etc/gdm/sessions/ and make it exicutable.
For blackbox I just have the command in the script and that works fine.

thanx . i got blackbox in my login
manager finally so when x starts i can choose it. i
had to edit my .xinitrc file. now it reads like this:
exec startkde #for kde
exec gnome-session #for gnome
exec wmaker #for windowmaker
exec enlightenment #for enlightenment
exec blackbox #for blackbox
my question is this though: when blackbox starts its
not like it was originally. i can only right click(i
think its right) to get to the menu, and theres
nothing really in the menu at all. it wasnt like this
when i got it up the first time. any ideas?? thanx for
all the help.
