This has happened for every EA game since need for speed most wanted. The install claims that you don't have the latest version of directx, yet you have. A temp fix is to copy every cd/dvd file to the hard drive, change the directx version required in autorun.cfg, and install from there. There are a lot of users on forums complaining about this, but this is the only suggestion that's been given. Any ideas out there?

Here is one alternative,

DirectX Error when Installing: When installing the game if you get an error that DirectX9.0c is not installed, even if you've installed DX9.0c already, then find the game's Autorun.exe file (in the base directory of the game CD), right-click on it, select Properties, go to the Compatibility tab, tick the 'Run this program in compatibility mode for' and select 'Windows 2000'. Then double-click on Autorun.exe to begin installation. Make sure to turn off compatibility mode after installing the game.

This is the one that worked for me but you don't want to do that right?
1. After you mount the game image, copy all the files to you hard drive in one folder for example NFSMW.

2. Open the \NFSMW\Autorun folder..and then open the file autorun.cfg with Notepad.

3. Look for the parameter DirectXVersion=9.0c and change the 9.0c to 0 and save the file.

4. Run the Setup from your hard drive folder and ENJOY!!

Hope that helps ya.

The compatibility mode shortcut fix has never worked for me, unfortunately. I've never had a problem with the 2nd method, but it means you have to copy the contents of the entire disc to your hard drive... I've never heard of having to do anything like that with games from any other company, that's whacked. The 2nd fix is what I was talking about in the original post, but thanks anyway for posting it. This has happened with me for every EA game brought in the last year - and I don't buy all of them, of course, but surely there are 1 million+ users with an EA games title that would have complained to tech support, getting EA to get off of their collective asses and fix the installer, when they've known about it for a year?
