I was looking for some components for my new pc on ENPC.com (http://store.yahoo.com/enpc/). Being on a budget, I was originally going to just get a plain 52x CD-ROM but then I spotted this Acer 2410A CD-RW (http://store.yahoo.com/enpc/ac2410acd24w.html). It is 24x/10x/40x all for $99. I know that re-write speed is a little slow, but 24x write speed? It also has a little brother at 20x/10x/40x for $85. Are these prices bogus? Is the quality of Acer drives horrible. Do they not include key features? It says it inlcudes a CD writing program, but I have my own so that does not matter. Please help as I do not want to buy a lemon.

I've got an Acer 10X8X32 I got at Best Buy nearly a year ago (I'd say this past February) and has never failed once. No bad disks, no buffer underruns...nothing. Was the cheapest they had with a 4MB cache at the time and the only others with a cache that size was Sony and HP...these were alot more $$$.

It's a good CDRW in my opinion.

Well, If you want a laugh, Argos in the UK have a 4*4*8 Freecom external CD-RW Drive for........£169.00!

I just picked up a phillips 8*4*32 for £45 second hand, which was quite a steal........:)....It's going in my bro's machine, and I'm keeping the 12*10*32 Memorex TwelveMaxx.......

No, those prices are real and the Acer drives, for the price, are fine.

Maybe I am missing something about this deal, but www.newegg.com sells 24/10/40 Lite-On drives for about $100 shipped.

I guess any 24/10/40 CD-RW for around $100 is a decent deal, but I would go with the Lite-On before the Acer.

Also with Newegg you are almost guaranteed great service and fast shipping:)
