I'm planning on upgrade my home system and I would like to know which one will be a better one.
Currently I have the following setup:
AMD64 Venice 3200+
DFI Venus nForce4 mobo
2*512 MB of Corsair XMS PC3200 @ 400Mhz 2-2-2-5
nForce 6800 BFG Vid Card (Forgot to model :D)
250 GB SATA HD
I want to buy another pair of Corsair memory and any of this:
AMD64 X2 Manchester 4200+ (2.0 GHz and 2*512Mb L2)
AMD64 X2 Toledo 4400+ (2.2 GHz and 2*1MB L2)
AMD64 X2 Toledo 4800+ (2.4 GHz and 2*1MB L2)
There is also the FX-60 but that one cost a lot of money so Im not even dreaming of getting one....much less consider buying it.
Just FYI I can tell you which are the prices for them.
AMD64 4200+ 263.00 USD
AMD64 4400+ 303.25 USD
AMD64 4800+ 373.50 USD
Any advice will be welcome :D
I would say go with Toledo 4400+, for 40$ more you get double cache and 11x multi. 4800+ aint worth 70bucks more.
4200+ is a very good choice if you are tight on budget, but if you can afford spending a little more than go with Toledo. Thats just my opinion.

I got my 4800 for 288 from mwave.com , it still is currently 288

i dunno - im making the same choice right now
X2 4200+ (http://www.pricegrabber.com/p__AMD_Athlon_64_X2_4200_Dual_Core_Processor,__915 7341) Shipped is $191
AMD 4400+ (http://www.pricegrabber.com/p__AMD_Athlon_64_X2_4400_Dual_Core_Processor,__173 27271) Shipped is $244
is 30% more money (50$) really worth the extra 1mb cache?
according to Toms Hardware, (http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu.html?modelx=33&model1=479&model2=478&chart=186) the difference is somewhat minimal
ive been on the edge of making this decision for a while...

SETI loves a big L2 Cache ;)
Juan if you can do it, I would say sell the whole thing and change to a conroe system. After trying a conroe and seeing the future predictions I jumped ship and sold all of my AMD equipment. It's the biggest change I've ever seen in my 31 year IT experience.

Well Tim, the market for used parts in Mexico is really not good....I was planning on keep this until well into the Vista/Conroe/Core2Duo era, and see what I get then.
It took me a long, lob time to move from Intel to AMD, this rig is about 2 years old (it first came with a LanParty nFroce4 :D) and was really pushed because I needed to upgrade my vid card from AGP to PCI Express. I don't regect the change as this system has been rock hard stable with a really modest oc....specially after I got the new 600 W PSU :D
Now Im bidding my time and waiting to get a Core2Duo rig at work, from there I can start palnning my next upgrade. But from the latest technology I would really prefer to see how the new DX10 vid cards develop, which is the "new" CPU hit (or miss....LOL) and if I should get new optical drives.
