I have 10 Megs Cable here in Calgary, Alberta. It's new.. used to be maxed at 7 :)

Still doesn't touch what they have overseas... I wish I could get at around 20 megs :(

Cableone.net offers up to 5mbit in this area ... standard is 3mbit. Based on speeds I'm starting to get late at night on some downloads, I think they may be planning an upgrade to 5mbit standard.

3 meg down and 256 kb up is all we have here in Sanford through Charter Cable.

The down is fine for what I do, but that up is terrible. If I lived about 15 miles north of here, I'd have Time Warner and get 5 meg down and 384 kb up standard, but also have the option of the 8 meg down and 512 kb up.

Here in Queens NY we just got upgraded to 7/512 for standard Roadrunner.
Premium is still 8/512 though. If they push it up to 10/1 I'll get that.

try living in the uk! its crap!

broadband is slow, expensive, unreliable, low upload...

i have 4mbps/256k up cable and its about £25 per month... yes thats $46.38 per month.

you can get cheaper ADSL broadband which i used to have (BT, tiscali, talk talk, sky...) but apart from pipex the service is pretty poor...

plus i get my tv through cable...

on the other hand these massive speeds dont really make much difference untill you are downloading huge ammounts...

I've had 10mb down, 1mb up for a few months now - through Mediacom in IA. It works really well so far, no complaints.

Don't forget the "as low as" pricing is for the basic, smallest package, and usually only as a limited time offer to get you addicted. You gotta compare prices of the package you want, and what it'll actually be like in 6 months, once they know they gotcha.

3mbps adsl. for all of you that dont know, adsl is a combo of isdn and dsl. I think. anyway, its got severe add so it closer to about 3mbpd, where the d stands for day. and i live in switzerland, and it 50 francs a month or ~$40.

hehe, I pay $50 for a years worth of service, I get 100mbps up , 100mbps down (the upload is limited to 1.5mbps per host)

the catch is I can only upload 5 gigs and download 5 gigs for any rolling 24 hr period

Really? I never noticed the speed upgrade. I think my uploads have been faster but never noticed the download increase.

Fios just became available in my area so im thinking about that. 20/5 for $45 is pretty cheap even though i dont really like verizon.

It is possible you havn't gotten the dl increase. Some areas have mixed speeds. The upgrade is still not official. Here is a thread on the whole thing.

I have the option for 6/768 or 8/768. I wonder if I can upgrade my service since those are faster than they were when I signed up :)

Powercycle your modem and you might just get the new speed automatically. If not Call them and tell them to upgrade you.

im supposed to get 6 meg(comcast).. the most i usually get is 3 meg(down). I know the prob is load sharing cause around 6-10 pm its really slo.. On top of it its 45.00. a mo. Im tempeted to get the dsl from verizon(15.00-30.00 a month depending on speed) Im praying for fios... verizon now has the capability of delivering up to 50 meg and it seems like their price(s) are really affodable...

After using cable for a couple months, go back and try to use dial up for an hour. Make sure you don't have a gun in the house...

You should try living out in the sticks of Minnesota. I get one option for high speed ...my local phone company. They offer 512/256 for $50 or 1M/512 for $116. Otherwise it's back to the dial up for $10 a month. I hear someone complain about 3M-5M and it makes me want to scream.

I was stuck on 56k for several years. (40+min from a major center) Now I live in a decent sized town and have 3.0/640 DSL and I must say it's a welcome change.
