I looked around and haven't been able to find any. Does anybody make barbs that use the 3/8" NPT thread? I'd like something other than these plastic ones if possible. I need 3/8" NPT to 1/2". I looked at performance-pcs, Jab-tech, Petra's, and dangerden and couldn't find anything but the platic ones...

Any ideas?

You might try your local truevalue / lowes / homedepot.

-> These have been a treasure trove of components / modding supplies fo me. Maybe they could help you out? (Check the plumbing section)

Any specific materials I should stay away from? Is mixing metals in a loop bad?

I am sure that I've read a sticky / post here regarding the do's and don'ts.

Also, you should be able to talk to plumbing rep at one of those stores in regards to the same question.

Most barbs at stores will be made of brass. It will be fine mixed with copper and Al.

Cool, I'll check at lowes on the way home from work.

So no wc companies make any though? I'd prefer something like High-Flow, Perfect seal, EK's barbs, etc.

I used brass NPT barbs on my old Via Aqua 1800 and they weren't that restrictive. Far better than the cruddy plastic ones I've seen some places. You can drill out the center some more to increase the diameter of the inside if you'd like.

Only thing is I think most of the 3/8" NPT I have seen have a 3/8" barb not a 1/2" barb. To get a 1/2" barb you have to go to 1/2" NPT.

The home depot in MD i went to did not have them. I did not try the lowes back home. But i just came from the lowes down here at school -- and they DO HAVE that exact size brass fitting.
Well, im not 100% on that, but i do know by looking at thier selection, if those things are made they may have it.

On a side note... The people at lowes down here in southern VA are so much more helpfull than the morons woring in the hardware stores back in central MD. They A) know weather or not they carry a part and if its in stock and B) if they dont carry the part, they will tell you what store in town does.
Mad Props to Lowes for not sucking!!! YAY!!!

p.s. -- because they are nice and helpfull I'll be getting all my tubeing, fittings, and clamps from them. Besides, $0.27 / ft tubeing ftw!!!! (1/2'' ID, 5/8'' OD)
Ok, so it was a bit of a plug, but its not often i come out of a store feeling good and not like i hate all of man kind for being worthless fools. /threadjack

I want something LIKE that, but I need the thread type to be 3/8" NPT not G 1/4"

Yeah those are in a metric threading iirc.. My local Lowes carries 3/8" & 1/2" in 1/2" NPT as well as 3/8", 1/2", and 3/4" in 3/8" NPT. If you are going down to Burbank any time soon stop by the Empire Center Lowes. Unless they've changed their stock in the past year they should have them.

Ace hardware carries more fittings and barbs than Lowe's or the Depot. Check 'em out, cause that's where I got my 3/8" NPT ones at.

mcmaster.com most likely carries them too, though you'll have to do the hunting. Their pages aren't too friendly for linking last time I tried.

Lowes, Home Depot, and the like are useless when it comes to getting fittings. I can get anything I need from one of 3 Ace stores nearby. They each carry slightly different fittings such that if one doesn't have what I am looking for, one of the others will. I have even bought a 3/8"NPT x 5/8" plastic barb before which no one else had. I can get brass 3/8"NPT x 1/2" barbs all day long.

BTW, the tubing they all carry, be it Lowes or ACE or whatever, stinks royally. It is WAY too inflexible. Do yourself a favor and get some Masterkleer, Clearflex, Primoflex, or even Tygon.

Yeah, I ordered 10' extra of Masterkleer 7/16" ID, I love the stuff.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.
