I believe in order for dual channel to work, you either need matching modules in all 4 slots, or just 2. Not 2 + 1 ;)

But hey, the worst that will happen is dual channel wont work, forcing you to loose virtually no real world performance. Also, I believe that config would cause you to run 2t instead of 1t

It might be easier to sell your 2 x 512 kit and get a nice 2 x1g kit.

Thanks I think I will do then better to be safe than sorry with all that messing about.

I thought some nForce 2 mobo's could still run dual channel when using all 3 memory slots?

I think mine can I'll read the manual it's somewhere up my attic or I could ask on the official forums but that never seems to get an answer.

my abit nf-7 worked like that.....i had 2x256 & 1 512 in the 3rd slot for dual channel.

in this case, i had to load & boot the 2x256's then turn off 'puter, load the 512 & then reboot again for the dual channel to work.

I've seen some Kingston 2GB PC3200 HyperX Value Ram Kit for £165 http://www.dabs.com/productview.asp...4294960195,4294959239,4294955846&v=2#infoarea or I could buy a Corsair 1GB PC3200 Platinum Module for £88 http://www.dabs.com/productview.asp...294957152,4294955846,42670000,12&v=2#infoarea and then purchase another 1 later. I suppose running a 1GB module in single channel shouldn't hurt performance that much.

I could sell my GEIL 1GB Kit for at least £40 to my brother I scam him all the time cause his PC's rubbish.

Screwing your brother over will some day come back and bite you in the ***.

Nforce 2 boards should do dual channel with three sticks. Haven't tried dual 512s and a 1gb in mine, but its consistently worked in dual channel with 3x256 and 2x512+1x256. Those who are speaking about boards not booting with 3 sticks, or no dual channel with 3 sticks, are referring to A64 boards.

Mismatched memory may cause problems, but I havent had a problem with that either, though I havent done it all that often... specifically, I know i've used 1x256 of corsair pc2700 alongside 2x256 of ocz pc3500 with no problems... If you were going to be doing some heavy overclocking it might be more problematic, but baring that I would bet it would work fine.
