Got a question for you folks..

I'm running a YS-tech 120mm fan directly off my PS so I picked up an inline RPM cable to attach to one of the empty Fan headers on my MSI board. trouble is I can't get it to register. The ystech fan has a 3 pin connector with 3 wires, the adapter cable appears to be on correctly and I've tested the header with a stock fan running off it with no problems so the headers not smoked.

any suggestions?

Thanks

All that i can think is you have something hooked up wrong. You sure that your RPM wire is going to the right spot?

I haven't tried it but to get rpm, I think there is some "feedback" from the fan connections. If you look there is a small circuit board in the thing. To get rpm measurement I think it senses feedback from the fan circuit. In other words, the whole fan has to be plugged into the header.

I have a MSI K7Turbo. I have a delta 80 rpm sensor hooked to one header and a delta 60mm rpm sensor hooked to the other header. RPM sensors only. Power is off of a bus and rheostat system I threw together. You do not have to have the fan power connected to the header for the RPM sensor to work. If you did, your ys tech would probably burn out that header.

Did your ys tech come with a rpm sensor wire? The reason I ask is that I have two delta 80s, one with a sensor wire, one without. If it did not come with a RPM sensor wire, you can't connect it to the header. You can try installing one on your fan, not sure how though.

You might need a ground (black wire) connection to the header for it to work - I changed my cpu fan to 7V today and the sensor completely shut off.

The YS-tech 120 has a 3 pin connector with 3 wires, so I'm assuming that one is for the sensor. The cable i picked up plugs in line with a molex connector and it all appears to be hooked up right. A single wire and connector exits from there to the fan header (the wire is on the same pin where the rpm wire should be on the header.. I think it might be a ground thing.. a picture of the connector can be found at www.sidewindercomputers.com thats where I picked it up. I also have a potentiomenter in line and have tried it with it installed and not, still no go..
