Anyone else loses internet connection fairly frequent with rounter? It usually happens after hours of gaming, then all the sudden the internet isn't working any more. It must be the rounter because once poke the tiny reset button on the router, internet comes back after the reset.

I read custom reviews on newegg about many routers. There are always a few people for each router complaint about the same problem.

So are we just having bad luck? or it happens to everybody, just the matter of frequently or not.

Ok this problem for me was from a while back, at this moment I am not even using any router. It's a linksys wired(means not a wireless lol) router. It went really hot after some time of heavy traffic. I am thinking to use a router again sometimes soon, wonder if it is a problem I can fix or it is the router's "natural" weakness?

Home/office routers usually cannot handle very heavy traffic. A good way to confirm that the problem is your router is to hook your computer directly up to your modem and see if the problem persists. If it doesn't then it is your router.

For a solution that can definitely handle your traffic load, look into setting up a Smoothwall, m0n0wall, or IPCOP on an old computer. These are all extremely streamlined linux distributions which serve as a firewall. They provide standard and advanced routing/firewall features and can run on an old machine such as a 133Mhz PC with 16MB of ram.

I researched this recently and the problem seems to be the connection timeout.
If a connection is terminated prematurely the router will try to remake that connection for days instead of minutes which then will start accumulating and will clog the router after a day or two.
As far as I know Linksys routers have 3rd party firmware with the time out value set to a much more aggressive value and will cut out these connection and not clog the router.

There isn't a 3rd party firmware for my Edimax so I'm looking to go Smoothwall.
