Two things that will shave off a little time:

1) Get your BIOS to either
    a. Not attempt to detect drives on controlers without drives
    b. Set your BIOS to your HDs, that way it dosen't have to detect them on boot. It allready knows them.

2) Disable some startup programs.

I brought down my boot times from somewhere near 1 min 30 sec to 58 sec. I don't know if that's good for Win98, but shaving 30 secs was cool... 99.9% due to disabling startup programs.

defraging your harddrive might help.

well i already defraged my hdd
bios doesnt look for drives that are not there
" b. Set your BIOS to your HDs, that way it dosen't have to detect them on boot. It allready knows them."
what does this mean???

i think he means autodetect them but another idea would be to set about your registry and cut some corners better still get something like "TweakUI" which enable you to boot without the windows splash screen etc.
this will definatley speed things up a bit as that sonds like some thing like a pentium 90's boot time not some thing over a gig u should get rid of passwords etc when logon you should be seeing windoze in under a minute eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeasy!!!!!!!!
infact id go as far to say as id be worried if it took me so long to hit windoze(desktop)

Click on your hard drive, and click view tab. Go to folder options, then click the view tab. Under hidden files, choose show all files. Then Msdos.sys should come up on your screen. (C: screen) Make sure in Msdos properties, the Read-Only box is checked. Open it with NotePad.
