Yeah I've learned my lesson, don't skimp on hard drives. Just the fact that the warranty is only 1 year tells you it's probably lesser quality than a 5 year drive. And when your drive dies at 13 months and you're out a drive and your data (damn I thought it was backed up!) you'll wish you had spend the few extra bucks.

They routinely offer 1yr on retail drives and 3yrs on OEM. Kinda silly really.

It is pretty stupid...they should just give 3 years across the board...but its not a bad deal if your in the need for a large SATA HDD and dont mind the short warranty.

hmm they had this deal awhile back. cept with an additional $18 rebate. I got one during the time.

although i think im lucky. haven't ever had a hard drive die on me.. not even that.. 8 year old 10 gig >.> although i think its starting to rot.. lol. not data corruption no nothing ^^"

The only problems I have had with hard drive was with a Maxtor...The smart feature detected a failing disk drive---about 3 years agao, but the drive is still alive and kicking.I simply disabled the SMART feature in the BIOS...thats the worst HDD problems I have ever had

All HDDs fail eventually, it's only a matter of whether or not they are still in warranty. 1yr is not enough of a safety net for me to spend $80.
