I think I am going to purchase a Diamond brand x1959xtx for my new mini-atx. I was reading specs on Diamond's site, and they say that it requires

"Intel® Pentium® 4 or AMD® Athlon® 64 FX"
http://www.diamondmm.com/X1950XTX512PCIE.php

I just installed a Athlon 64 x2 DC, and though I assume they're fully compatable, I glanced ove rthe cpu packaging, and it didn't have the 'FX' printed anywhere (or a logo that I could see).

Has anyone run into any compatability issues with the Diamond x1950xtx? I'd rather pay the extra bit and get an ATI brand, because I certianyl can't afford 2 yet... nor would I really need them I suppose

If you have a mobo with a pci-e slot and a good enough power supply to power it then you should be good so long as it fits in your case.

They only recommend those so that you get the most out of the card. If you overclock your X2, or even don't OC it, then you're fine. It WILL work.

Thanks for the encouragement guys. I couldn't imagine that it wouldn't work, I'll let you know how the final product turns out!

I got my x1950xtx from Diamond, and it works great! I had to buy a new power supply, as I incorrectly thought the 6-pin power plug it needed was only when running dual-cards in crossfire.

My only complaint is that the 'Diamond Tools' software that is supposed to be my heat monitoring, OCing, ect has an 'access violation' error (error # is all zeros...), and will start and run, but does not detect anything...

If anyone else has an x1950xtx, and can point me towards a good heat monitoring utility (I really don't think I need to do any OCing... scoring 18.5K on 3dmark03 with my ram, cpu, and gpu all clocked at factory defaults, but I'd like to see how hot it gets, as I (barely) managed to stuff the HUGE video card into a micro-ATX box (don't think it would fit in a shuttle, or X-cube, but the Aspire X-Qpack will kinda barely give you enough room!

Cheers!

Yeah don't even bother with the software that comes with video cards.
ATITool is probably the simplest program that will let you monitor temps (Just Google it).

AtiTool didn't seem to work - gave me the same problem as the Diamond tools did (no temp/speeds listed at all).

I recently got rivatuner, and it's been working great. I would love some more customization for my temp guages, but it's not that bad at all.

I think I messed up and installed an older version of the drivers I had, because after installation, I was runniong 18K+ scored for 3Dmark03, but now I'm barely topping 5K... <scratches head>

Going to re-install the drivers to be sure, and then I might try using some omega drivers... unless someone has a definitive answer about which drivers are the best for the x1950xtx...

Cheers!

uninstall old drivers, download driver cleaner and install that http://www.drivercleaner.net/professional.php start pc in safe mode and start driver cleaner and choose ati and ati wdm and ati ccc and let it clean out drivers right and then go to ati.com and download new 6.10 cat drivers and let use know https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=27

I actually just un-installed the catalyst controll center, and other associated crap with a/r programs. I re-installed the new drivers, and I'm back up to 18.5K on 3DMark03.

I suppose I should invest in a new benchmarking program.

Cheers!
