Workstation PC for Email + Watching DVD
CPU: -----
Motheboard: depends on processor (Asus TUSL2C / MSI 850Pro5 / K7T266 pro 2)
Ram: 512mB (Micron for SD and Samsung for RD n DDR, there aren't many god rams in Hong Kong)
Gfx: ATI AIW Radeon (CPU matters, right?)
Monitor: (what is the diffrence between DVI and VGA)
I believe programs like WinDVD require at least an 800mhx processor for playing dvds correctly. The email requirement is nothing since that can be done with my pentium 60 still.
The difference between DVI and VGA is basically the type of monitor it connects to. The newest monitirs out there, most of them flat screen, offer dvi connectors, which are supposed to be better than the vga port. My video card has both, but I don't have a monitor with dvi to test things out.
Basically, make sure you have a vga connection on there, which it should. Most monitors still use only those.
DOH! I just realized you were talking about dvi in your monitor section there. Anyways, make sure your video card has the same connection as your monitor.
If watching dvds is your big requirement, you don't need too much in processing power. You could even reduce the processing power dramatically by getting a dvd decoder card. I'd recommend spending the big money on a 21" monitor and some 5.1 surround sound speakers. the klipsch ones are the best, but they are 300 bucks.
512 mb ram is also a bit much for dvds.
duron at 1gig the new morgan cores would be perfect and cheap.
