My $700 JBLs that I robbed BB for, got em for under $140 with tax.

Oh you meant without totally ganking the store?

Ill leave that to other people but I like my Logitechs.

that's not a lot for 5.1, with that budget the only thing i can think of is z-5300e

I would go with the Logitech's or the Klipsch.

yeah, I have z5300's (same as the z5300e's in a different color) and they are very nice. Good power out of the sub and great sound quality. Just wish that the center channel could be mouted to the wall and that the cords were a little longer (had to get extensions).

How did you manage that?

Speakers were on clearence, and open box.

When I went into the store, I stood around for about 45 minutes waiting for help.

after 30-45 minutes, I went looking for help. I immediately asked for a manager.

When the manager came over, I explained that I was going to buy those speakers but due to the poor service (NONE), I had changed my mind.

Manager made me wait about 5-10 minutes and then came back offering an additional 10% off (I didnt mention the coupon I had).

I told him to ring me up.

After he gave me the total, I said Oops I have this coupon too, he was ****ed.

My vote is for the promedia 5.1's if you can get them in your budget. If not, 5300e's/

i went with the 5.1 klipsch used off ebay about a year ago for 150 and i love them. haven't had an issue with them yet and they go louder than i would ever need unless i wanted to open up a club in my basement

edit: also what was a big seller for me was the nice console unit with the headphone jack in it which you can also use the volume nob to convenient control the headphones, and since you have a nice set of headphones it makes it easy to switch over if needed

I got a Z-640 a few years back and have loved it to death. My roomate just got a Z-5300 though and that blows mine out of the water. I can't tell much of a difference in quality of sound (both are amazing in that regard), but the sheer volume is astounding. My 70W are enough to make listening at full volume very uncomfortable from the computer chair, and loud enough to work for a small home theater. Four times the wattage for the Z-5300.... Well, it's quite loud. :D

I'd totaly recommend the 5300s as well -- they rocked my socks.

Well i have had them 2 days now, Anyone know if the rear channel is supposed to be drastically quieter than the other channels, cause it sure seems that way at half volume i can put both up to my ears... while i cant get too close to my other ones.

Thanks.

Don't they have a separate volume control for the rear channel?

It depends what your playiong really/what mode the speakers are in.

Another z-5300 convert :D. I got mine quite a while ago, when they first hit the shelves. Be careful not to blast them too loud for too long. I think 2 of my satellite speakers are slightly blown now, or the cheap plastic is rattling at high volume. At low and moderate volumes these really are awesome and very crisp. Slight loss of fildelity at mid and low-mid frequencies, but this is problematic for most small speaker satellite surround systems. The sub can only compensate so much for the lack of bass the smaller speakers produce. Still can't beat a good set of full range tower speakers, but for the size and convenience the compromise is bearable.
