on a ide ribbon with two connections ( one made for 2 hdd)
does it work if you just lop off that topo ne ( make it work for just one hdd) ( to save room)
what about floppy cable?

yea i got impationt and just cut them off.
is there anyway to move the connectors up and down on the ribbon? ( you know to make them cutsome lenght)

There is, but you need a special tool to put the connector on with.

http://www.jameco.com sells them. They are called IDC crimpers, the connectors are IDC type connectors. Jameco sells the connectors and ribbon cable as well.
I use a vise to put them on, but you have to be carefull.
There is a limit to how long an IDE cable can be. I think it is 24 inches, but I do not remember.

naw i dont want to buy anything if i dont have to
the vice idea sounds good ( i want to make them shorter not longer)
how do you do dual does one of the connectors have to be upside downs

You can move the connectors without a special tool. This may be difficult with ata66/100 cables but the regular ata33 cables are easy. If you look closely at the sides of the connector you'll see how their hold on to the cable. By using a pair of noise pliers you will be able to divide the connector. You can then mount it another place on the cable and press it togheter again.
I have done this myself to floppy cables. Sorry for my bad english and the way I explained this :( But I think you can do it :D

No, you do not flip one. Pin one has to line up with the edge of the cable with the red stripe.
