http://gaming-edge.blogspot.com/2006/10/sony-clarifies-some-ps3-controller-talk.html?doh

According to gaming edge everytime you shut down and start-up again the PS3 you have to have the controller hooked up via USB cable to get a signal for the wireless feature. It's not like 360 where after you press the power button on the console & the pad's centre button & your done.

Where talking always having a USB cable out to pair it how annoying then apparently the battery in the pad lasts for about 30hrs after it's first 2.5hr charge. Once it no longer responds to recharging you'll have to buy a new 1 or send it in for repairs as the battery cannot be removed. If it's going to be a battery simular to lappy then you'll be sending back in melted form

PS3 has plenty of problems, but there were also many an exploding 360 around this time last year. I saw it ALL first hang. Discs shootind across the room on fire like one of the weapons from Alien vs. Predator, super-heated consoles that had to be propped up on top of books to receive proper ventilation, and many a system that was bought around this time last yeat that's DEAD today. So spare me the "New System Blues..." this happens every time one comes out.

But thanks for the info. I would NEVER buy one of those systems when it first comes out :)

yeah Rainless, crappy stuff does happen when systems not made by Nintendo or Sega first come out but the USB cable and non removable battery thing isn't a 1st run bug it's just fracking poor design. I'll bet the money grubbers at Sony were sitting there thinking we could charge $10-$15 for a replaceable battery or $40-$50 for a whole new controller, then starting rubbing their hands together going mwuuuuuuuuuuuuuhahahahahahaha. Man, they really **** me off, I've NEVER wanted something to fall on its' face so bad in my life.

Wow you have to plug it in on startup everytime?...I'd almost rather have it be wired then you wouldn't have to crouch in front of your TV durring POST you could hit the button and walk to the couch. How come none of the hands on reviews have talked about this. Reminds me of a thread yesterday about game reviewers just being bought out to write articles.

"fall on face" yes I agree....PS3 is like an old lady on ice...Come on baby! come on baby!

More playstation 3 problems..... Im not suprised. The PSX, gamecube, xbox, PS2 were all flwaless on release. At least nintendo is keeping up with that tradition

Its like an old person, peroid.

I doubt that it dosen't start crapping its chassis after a few hours into playing.

Sadly, you are GREATLY mistaken on that front. The GameCube was flawless, the Xbox had crappy power cords and a crappy Thomson CD/DVD drive that doesn't read all media formats and craps out after a year or two. The PS2 and PSX both had crappy CD/DVD drives that quit working after a year or two. The slimline PS2 had overheating issues when it was first released.

Nintendo better not have problems as the hardware is 6 years old now. Anyway this is pretty crappy to hear, may just end up getting a logitech controller or something if I get one of these so I don't have to deal with the battery issue.

They had to COMPLETELY re-do the PS2, because of Disc read errors with the laser, and the fact that the original system was going to use a PCMCIA slot instead of a drive bay and a proprietary slot. They had to redo the whole thing by versions 2 and 3. Then all the problems you mentioned plus all the problems with the 360.

Oddly enough I never had any problems with the sega systems. My first-run genesis system never stopped working. My dream cast only stopped working recently... but it's been TEN YEARS almost... And it's even working, it's just that the disc scrapes against the chasis now for some odd reason. If I really took the time to fix it, then it would still work.

I even have a Neo Geo Gold that still works. Not the best constructed of systems... but catridge based systems are kind of hard to make up.

I will say that I take exception with Nintendo though: The Nintendo Entertainment System was a piece of crap. It outlived it's warranty... but as SOON as that was up, I had to blow in the system to get games to work, I had to blow in the catridges, I had to put cartridges in the refridgerator. I never EVER had to do that with an Atari 2600... or any cartridge based system after that. Never had to blow in SNES carts, or Neo Geo carts, or Genesis carts. It's not like they get any slack for being the first ones either, because they weren't. Collecovision as well...

That used to really make me mad: NES games freezing up on me. I was all the way at the end of TMNT and you KNOW how long that was!

I'd just say wait til January. I'm not entirely in agreement with Fudge that this was done by design. I think the PS3 construction, in general, has been so problematic that the LAST thing they were thinking about was the controller. First they had to worry about where the hell they were going to get the blue-ray lasers from, then there were all the problems with the cell processor, now they won't even have enough systems, I think they just figured the controller would work, and then found out at the last second that it won't, and are still busy trying to fix other things.

Lol. I can just imagine the tech team..

"Allright! Let's turn this sucker on!" *pushes button on controller*

"Uhh... Well... wait.. huh... Let's see... It's not turning on!...." *rips it all apart*

*puts it back together* *pushes button*

"GAH! STILL NOT WORKING!"

"Uhh.. PS3 Advanced Unit Development and Testing... Uhh.. It's not turning on..."

"Hmmm, we'lll ship you a new one"

*Three months later*

"HEy! I NEED TO PLUG THE DANG THING IN TO GET IT TO TURN ON!"

that must be cause for all the delays,

If that controller stuff is true, that is horrible... Details like that are very important. Maybe it'll somehow get changed before release or sometime after since there should be a lot of pressure to at least have a wireless system as good as the 360's (which is excellent).

Edit:
Looks like they have updated the article. The required USB connecting was required on earlier revisions of the console, but should now only be required once, and I would guess any time you took it to a different console afterwards. The non-replacable batteries are still in, though.

They still have a couple of weeks. Like I said: Wait til January. They'll have all the bugs worked out.

Forget the bugs, they're just doing crappy stuff on purpose now.

Sony have stated that they will replace a defective controller if the battery no longer charges. There is no news on how much it will costs to replace the battery or pad whatever but it won't be cheap.

Sony will have a skip full of non-usable pads waiting for a battery change then they probably clean them up and sell them back as new parts I bet. Simple recycle service more like but the service will be simular to the PS2 replacement when failed drives reported "Disc Read Errors".

They didn't offer to replace mine, they wanted me to send it to an authorized Sony service center and pay $100 for repari and it was going to be near another $50 for shipping

Well, my 360 died about 2 months ago (got it on release), Microsoft picked it up free of charge, and returned it, also free of charge. I had the "3 red lights of doom" which is supposed to be a hardware failure, however all they do with this usually is re-flash the bios, and hey it worked.

Had a few friends have problems with their PS1s and PS2s, however any other consoles I can't recall there being problems, the Gamecube and Xbox consoles work pretty much flawlessly, although I did get the later crystal version... :)

Sounds like us guys over here in the UK should be thankful for our March 2007 release date for the PS3 then :)

Oh we'll be sitting pretty over here in Paris :)

Too bad nobody makes games here in Europe... (UBI soft! FTW!)

I usually have to import my games from London so that I don't have to play them in French. A genuine pain in the ass... Not to mention Europe usually gets shafted in terms of extras

Which sites do you use rainless to import your games? I know www.cdwow.com (http://www.cdwow.com) will ship to France
