I am thinking about buying myself a new CPU sometime soon. How soon, I don't know. :D I was just wondering if you'd recommend for me a 1.4 Ghz T-Bird or an Athlon XP (maybe the 1800+ or so). I've heard that since my ASUS A7V133 is revision 1.05, I can put an XP in it? Is that true? I think I read a while back that revision 1.05 and higher can support the XP. The thing about overclocking an XP is that I don't know that I am experienced enough to unlock the thing... I'm kind of afraid I might kill it and then I'd be out $250 or so. For an 18 year old in high school, it takes a while to make that money. :p So I was just wondering what you would recommend. How much a speed increase does one see in the Athlon XP over the T-Bird?

Thx. :D

You don't need to unlock the XP to get a good overclock out of it. You just need to get a 1700+ and increase the FSB. You might be able to get 155MHz FSB out of it, giving you 1705MHz.

Then, once an easier method of unlocking the XP is found, you can increase the FSB even more.

In other words, the XP is worth it.

For your particular Motherboard I would go with the T-Bird. Reason being is that just because your motherboard offers XP support through the Bios, does not mean that it works flawless, as a lot of A7M266 owners have found out.

I would say t-bird as well. Your realy better of upgrading your motherboard as well. You can get a kt266a motherboard for $85 now a days and a xp 1600 cpu for $110. Thats well under $200 for a great solid rig. Or even cheaper a ECS motherboard with the 735 chipset. Its about $60 and supports ddr and sdram so you can slowly move up to a higher end system.
