i have a sony computer runnin @ p4 1500 mhz and 384 ram and yet this doesnt seem fast enough and my sony case is all crowded up so i need some help here wether i should buy a new case or overclock help :(
Whether you can overclock it or not, depends on the motherboard. You'll need to look in the manual and figure out if the FSB is adjustable (which most OEM computers do not have adjustable motherboards). If not, then you won't be able to overclock it.
Check the motherboard to see if there's a User Define option to adjust the FSB if not.. screw the case get a new motherboard :)

ive checked it is adjustable but it just that i heard that overclocking ruins the computer fast and i dunt kno mayb the problem isnt with the case that is crowded mayb it is but it sure is running slow for a p4 1.5ghz on 384 ram

As long as you don't go for ridiculous speeds (like I do:D ), you're ok. But your problem sounds like heat to me. Get some fans in there if possible. P4's have speed throttling, they will slow down to a near stop if they get too hot.

Hmm I doubt its the P4.. What kind of operating system..
Overclocking isn't meant to ruin anything but can be harmfull if you don't watch your temperatures.. it will increase the speed obviously..
Download MotherBoard Monitor 5 and see what your temperatures overclock the FSB only since multipliers in Intel computers are locked.
If your still at good temps and have problems keep stablity either up the core.. or if temps or high move down abit.
If the overclocking works good I suggest you try a new cooler. You'll most likely hit 1.9 gig.

welcome first, I also just built an asus P4B, sounds like plenty of memory. forget about the multiplier adjust fsb in BIOS, Mines running fine at 122mgz 1.5@1.83 without really trying. extra case fan stock HSF. Need better cooling to go further. What Os? Latest drivers.

if it is in fact as ASUS P4B, you must be ABSOLUTELY SURE, then i suggest you flash the normal ASUS bios on to it, and the overclocking options will be in the bios...

Pacboy, check out the BIOS section in the begginers guide on the main page. It sure helped me out and good luck and let us know how it goes. be damn sure you have the right BIOS. I just put in the 1005 version works great no problems.

you say 88°, and i think that is not possible because the max ° is 73°. Maybe that is the reason the cpu is so slow. when the cpu gets too hot it autoadjust itself to a lower fsb until the heat is under the max..

i have the original fan/heatsink that came with my pc and that still doesnt seem to keep the cpu kool but what i dont understand is in hardware sencor monitor it has cpu 1 and cpu 2 temp which 1 counts?
and i dont think 1005 came out for my mobo yet

Well, I can GUARANTEE you that stock HSF isn't doing much. Unfortunately, as I do not know much about P4 cooling (I can't OC mine unless, by some stroke of luck, I get my hands on a Dell BIOS unlock program), I can't really recommend any good coolers. Maybe someone else out there knows about a good P4 cooler....

I've got my eye on th AVC sunflower it looks like the coolest/quietest combo so far. I'll probaly buy one in couple of weeks if I don't find a better one soon.

Oh yeah pacboy sounds like cpu 1 and cpu 2 could be cpu and memory temps respectively. Mine are 52c cpu and 34c memory. In which case 88c is way to high. Open the case up make sure all fans are working also run it with case off see if this helps.

Just ordered a AVC Sunflower for a system I am building, from here.

This has proved to be an outstanding company to deal with so far. Be sure to look at their unconditional return policies! Owner gives personal service much of the time, even in late PM.
