hey all,

I think i'm ready to build me a conroe rig :) now, i want to be cost effective as i can be seeing as tho i have to buy ALL new stuff. ram, cpu, and mobo.

I would like to have you all suggest the best bang for buck mobo, cpu and ram please. not sure what chipset i want, but i am going to be using my 7800GT's in SLI. i'm thinking on either the 6600 or the 6400. OH, and it all has to be good for overclocking ;) i would like to see around the 3.5 ghz mark.

No good overclocking SLI boards at all. You'd have to settle with a 975 chipset with modded drivers. The true SLI boards with the Nvidia chipset suck for Intels.

I'd recommend waiting for a few boards to come out using the n680 sli since you are set on OC'n + using SLI. Should be mid Nov/early Dec. http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=4637
Looks to be a much better solution than hacked drivers or using current c2d+sli nforce boards.

7900 *GTO* maybe a GS wouldn't even come close to the performance of my 7800GT's, but thx for the reply none the less :)

7900gs is right up there with a 7900gt, within about 5%. i would suggest single 7900gto then flash it to a gtx since they are the same cards. as for mobo's if you get either e66/e64 here is a general list of mobo's to look for.

abit aw9d/aw9d-max
dfi 975x/g
asus p5w-dh/p5b-dlx/p5b-e
gigabyte p965-s3/p965-ds3

if you really want sli wait till nov.7th when NV puts out the new 6xx chipset. that way we get to see who gets it to overclock to what. as it stand the 570/590 boards clock to about 340ish tops.
