networking problem

I wanted to get a few files off of my old computer without having to move it so i went with a network to transfer the files.

It didn't work. i used the windows network setup wizard on both computers. (mine is connectly directly to the router, and the other is connected via wireless) I used the same network name and everything. I then made sure i took down my firewall on both computers. This part really confused me: The shared files from my computer show up on the network places on the old computer, but the shared files from the old computer don't show up on my computer.

I have set up networks before on my computer for lan parties and other things and they have always worked, so i don't know. Any ideas about this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Oh btw, I would just transfer the files in another way except i don't know if this will be an ongoing problem or not. So i want to fix it now. I also am gonnna try to set up the network with another computer and my newer one just to see if it was my old one.

one more thing i forgot is that i have avg antivirus free edition, if that helps at all.
