I am doing some OCing on my 7800GT cards (one CO, one normal). My temperatures under load seem to hit around 71C in 3DMark05. Is that too high, or is around 70 OK for everyday use?

Depends in what clocks and what cooling. If its stock that looks to be about normal. Most of the nvidia chips can take over 100C (such as their laptop versions)
