Every time I try to configure my crap computer to get on the home network, I get a Vserver error and it never connects. The worst part is that concieted windows thinks that it done good, and thinks that there isn't a problem. HELP!
How about some network specs?
OSes, protocol in use, topography (patch cable/hub?) how many rigs and do others connect.

Windows ME on both.
Linksys 4 port router hooked up wit CAt5 to the other 2 comps. Other comps havent tried hookin up, others dont connect to it, since it's only those 2 rigs on it.
Protocols: Couldn't tell you, although both have TCP/IP and IPX installed and working properly.
I just set it up with windon home networking wizard, and it eeps giving me those errors on the one computer after I specify th workgroup and unique name.
first mistake is setting up with wizard,
you will end up running into more problems
you need to configure your router first
type in your devise ip: 192.168.1.50
tell it to automatically get ip
turn off DHCP
then where it has 192.168.1___ type in 1 in the blank
then go to properties on your network neighborhood
select tcp\ip properties
set your gateway at 192.168.1.50
set yyour subnet mask at 255.255.255.0
set your ip manually at 192.168.1.1 for first comp
find out your DNS and enter the numbers in the DNS table.
if you don't know the DNS numbers, you can contact your service provider and they will tell you
set you NIC at 100mgbits full duplex, and turn off any firewall settings if your using Win2000 or Win XP
then repeat everything on each comp except for the ip.
at the ip you are going to want to increase the last set of numbers by 1
finally, set your ports and everything inside the router configuration
make sure there is no ICS on, that really screws thangs up
good luck

ummmmm, we did all of that with setting up da router, and both computers can get online, and even play HL together, the problem is that the one crappy comp is not setup on the workgroup,(I cant even acces the "entire network w/o an error) even though windows thinks it is.
HELP!:(
ok, so far so good.
Both pcs must be sharing a resource to be visible in network neighborhood, so that may be something to check.
The vserver error is something I haven't seen before so this is a guess, but you might try removing and then re-installing networking on that pc, and if it still comes up you may have to reinstall the os (it sounds like the hardware is fine if the pc can access the internet.)
One change to the above post giving settings ( with my Linksys): I have DNS and Gateway both set to the router's IP address.
Keep trying!

OK, I disabled the VSERVER.vxd, and deleted it completely. After restarting, I was able to finish the wizard. Unfortunately, I still cant browse the network, it says "windows was unable to connect to the network. This may be for a number of reasons. To run the inane crap troubleshooter, click help."
Should I just kill alll the network protocols, and re-install them all?
if your still able to surf the internet on both, your tcp/ip protocols should be fine
make sure that the workgroups are the same on all comps and you may need to enable netbios
This you might already know, but did you set up drive sharing?

I cant just re-install windows either, since it's the family PC.
