It seems for some reason or another that the founders of overclockers.com either don't care about the Seti team, or they are offended by our move to get an official sounding domain name for the home page. I have attempted to contact Ed and Joe for nearly a month in order to have the link to the team page updated. It remains unchanged, and I have not gotten a reason or an excuse at all. It would now appear that something's up. Unfortunately it's impossible to figure out what's going on when they will not talk to me.
So here's what I'm asking you all to do. We need to contact them and figure out what the problem is. I wish to do so in a diplomatic fashion. I don't want to start a fight or aggravate them. Daniel founded the team, but he left it to us, and we are still allied with overclockers.com. His departure should not have a bearing on our relationship with overclockers. I believe that getting to the bottom of this can be mutually beneficial not only for the team, but for overclockers too. I see no reason why it shouldn't be.
I've been thinking about the best way to resolve this and so far this is what I think is best. I don't think they can ignore a large voice. If any of you have some alternative suggestions then lay them down here.
Being out of the loop for a bit like I was hasn't helped either. I will drop skip a note and see where that takes me, give me till the week is up and I will have an answer for you of some sort. I promise.
J
Thanks. I haven't tried contacting Skip because I thought only Ed and Joe update the main site. Plus Joe has the copyright on overclockers.com.
All three of them have an equally vested interest has always been the impression given to me. As well as the servers that run this site are located in Skips basement. So I will see where that get's me.

I don't think they are mad at us at all. Why should they be? We are one of the best teams in the world, and drawing people to the web pages. I just think they are busy with all they have to do to maintain the web pages.

I'm of the same opinion as Sir-Epix, with over 10,000 members this place must be really time-consuming. I'm sure that something will happen soon:)

I personally know that TC has been trying to contact Ed and Joe for about a month about the link. I remember that back when we were discussing to issue of maintaining our own website - and correct me if I'm wrong Speedj - but Speedj made some statements that made it sound as if Skip, Ed and Joe were against it. I believe we made the decision so as to have better control over our team site.
I would hope that Skip, Ed and Joe have not forsaken this team on account that we now have our own domain. We still are the www.overclockers.com Seti Team, and we are bringing members in to the site. I personally post in the Usenet Newsgroups and in my postings I advertise www.overclockers.com, and the forums with links to both.
My personal opinion, as to the formation of the www.ocsetiteam.com website, was that it wasn't a break away from overclockers.com, but rather to give this team a little more control of the website and only that. We are still the overclockers.com team and hopefully we can get Ed, Joe, and Skips support in this.

Not necessarily true, I was not sure that the Domain name should have been registered to anyone but Skip and team. That is all I was stating at that time.

If we had been forsaken we would not be listed on the frontpage in my opinion. As well as skip would've stopped running seti. They are still supporting us, but as it has been stated they are busy guys. They have alot going on Real-Life as well as here. I would have to say by far those are the most dedicated guys I have seen in my life, dedicated to keeping this a great place to go.

I would have to say you are correct about the URL, it was more to be able to take care of update's (Which happen alot more often than they did before) It was never a severing of the ties.
Again I ask just give it till I get skip's response back. Thank you guys for everything.

Skip did stop running Seti - he hasn't produced a single unit in weeks. That was something that made me wonder if he was upset. I also asked if he would mind leaving the page up on his server as a mirror in case of equipment problems. He did not and never told me why.
Regarding the domain - I emailed Joe, Ed, and Skip before I registered it and asked them how they felt about it. I didn't get single reply.
I don't doubt they're busy - that's a given, but seeing as how they add stories to the main page every day, and conduct email poles - changing one link is a trivial matter. I asked Ed to change it when he had time. I figured he might get to it within 3 or 4 days. That was 6 weeks and 4 emails ago. The Seti team is still listed on the main page, but Skip pulled the page from his server weeks ago, and I'm sure he could have made an effort to change the link himself, or ask Ed or Joe to do it for him.
All of this paints a picture of indifference or displeasure. I hope we can resolve this.

I must agree with TC on this issue. This is a very minor thing in relation to what those guys handle on a daily basis. I noticed the link had not been changed last night. I had to reformat my system, and went to the link off the front page. Well, you know where that got me.
I'm sure they are very busy guys, but Seti is very important to me, just as important as everything else I am involved in around here. If it is not as important to them, I couldn't fathom why. I know for a fact that loads of traffic can be attributed to Seti team members and This Seti team.
Having stated that I do not think it is ever wise to get upset or do anything rash like a mass e-mail.

Please post something in the moderator / Senior Blue Room. I am asking you to do this becasue you are the team leader (correct?), and a moderator. If you do not get an answer within a day or two then we should rethink the situation and voice other opinions.
TC, I can't understand for the life of me why you are being ignored. I think that is very rude and unapreciative. I know these things aren't "owed" to any of us, but I call this place home all the time, and would be very upset if I tried to speak with someone in my (real) home and didn't get a response quickly, much less in a few weeks. I hope there is a legitimate reason for this.
I do feel like we are due some type of input from the site "Managers" when there are outstanding issues, i.e., the web domain, etc...
Speed DJ, I sincerely hope things get sorted quickly, and reasonable explanations are given. I also hope that everyone understands that while we are not "owed" anything persay, we asre due common courtesy?
Thanks for listening - Joey aka killem1x1

We can put it to them.........
They seem pretty maxed out in the past few weeks, with a pile of other stuff........
I don't believe they are either annoyed with us, or don't care about SETI, sometimes life chucks other priorities at you......

Thanks for getting something worked out Speed. Was there a reason, or response as to why, and/or the webspace deal?
Not really any reason that I was made aware of, I do know the length of time was a bit drawn out. I apologize for that guy's it was something I or Kris should have taken care of. I hope that the delay has not caused any serious inconvenience for anyone. Again if you guys need to talk to me you can always feel free to grab me on ICQ or PM me.
Thanks for everything again Guys!
