View Full Version : Best drivers/RAM cooling for Nvidia

I was wondering what drivers everyone here has found to work the best. I am running the 91.33 forceware from Nvidia site. I have no problems with this driver that I know of. I was just wondering if anyone has found that other drivers work better. I have the BFG 7950GX2 500/600 (stock) I can run it at 550/600 and get about 1000 more on 3Dmark05 running it like this. But. I only have stock cooling and aftermarket cooling for this card cost almost as much as the freaking card. So I only run the card at those settings when running a benchmark. It would probably go higher but this is where coolbits sets it so I just tried it there. It would probably be fine but, this card works great in any game so I would rather not risk it. SO...Could anyone post what drivers have all of you played around with and what the results were?
One more small thing. I have seen what looks like people using staples? (from like an office or staple gun) As ram heatsinks. I saw this somewhere in the forums and have no clue as to where, but it honestly looked like small rows of staples :-/ I don't know if I am crazy or not or if anyone knows of something good that you can use to stick on the GFX ram to work as heatsinks that you might find around the house, in a hardware store, or walmart . Anything at all that anyone may have tried that worked for them.
Thanks in advance

Yeah, apparently the staples that are used for LARGE stacks of paper are much longer, and you can get them in copper. It's kind of cool, but for the price you can get an 8-pack of ram coolers from like Swiftech that will cool much better, so it's almost pointless.
As far as drivers I just run the latest. I'm not really concerned with whether one driver set will give me 50 more points in 3DMark or not. I think it's ironic that people spend so much time trying to get every last inch out of 3DMark instead of just using the video card and playing some games.

Oh i have no problems with mine at all. The thing is they are straight from Nvidia and they are "unapproved" so therefore I can't submit my score on the ORB for 3Dmark which i find rather retarded... I mean I'm not worried about a few 3Dmarks or anything really. But if there is like a GODLY driver out there that seems to work EXTREME well then I would rather use it. I would imagine that sometime here that 3Dmark will accept my drivers. I posted something similar in the Benchmarking section but guess how many people look there

madonion is known for not validating nv drivers quickly, dont worry about it.....
Oh I'm not really it would just be nice to have a link to my scores instead of taking screen shots ;) Like the link to the one in my signature

can not post links in sig unless it is heatware or to threads within the forums...this is covered in the rules for the forums, please remove it.
Dude get a life. It's now linked to the SAME PICTURE only on the forums. What you ticked off because you can't hit that or what? Really makes a big difference a picture of my desktop with a white background or a OC forums background. You need to get out of the house a little bit or something. Do you want to be a policeman when you grow up? Who died and made you a forum mod or admin? ... NOBODY! I DIDN'T THINK SO! BTW madonion looks to be associated with 01 not the rest of them. I don't need any more replies from the internet police either. So you can stay out of my thread now. K thanks bai :santa:

Yea damn frustrating, those internet police, mods, admin... Who would want to be one of those guys... I mean its bad enough being a helpfull member who tries to point out that someone is not following the rules they agreed to when joining the forum, only to recieve flaming and abuse which in turn only prompts me to come and point out that doing such is also against the forum rules.. Perhaps you should really consider reading them !!
Its also worth pointing out that its not your thread, anyone can participate here as long as they do so respectfully and within the rules, which you are currently not doing !!! -- they do not require your permission as you do not have the ability to decide what happens to any thread or a user on the forum, unlike me !!!

I just installed 91.47 yesterday. It seems to be about the same as my last driver. I was actually trying for a 3dmark approved driver but, mehhh.. oh well
I just use cool bits and let it decide where to OC the card to. I really don't trust myself when it comes to overclocking a GFX card :)

your insulting tone was not needed... i asked you kindly pointing out the rules.
im not mad about anything but since you brought up 3dmark scores like it means somthing...im quiet happy with my 7900gt ko. when im not that much lower in my score then you with a single card and near your cpu speed.

Had you actually "asked me" I would not have made a big deal about it. You were TELLING me to remove it like i linked to a kiddie porn site or something. Something as simple as a PM letting me know so that I might avoid trouble from it would have been fine too. Yes, it's a rule. No, I wasn't breaking the rules on purpose it was an honest mistake overlooking it. I doubt anyone would have cared or said anything until you pointed it out so directly. Kinda like i just did for someone who had a link to a website in their signature. Instead of pointing it out to the world in a post like it was a bomb threat or a terrorist attack

I'll put this in blatant terms for you. You didn't need to make a whole post about it to try and draw NEGATIVE attention to it. I doubt the mods would have said anything had you not pointed out that it was against the rules. Check it now. same picture "legal" link.

We have a wide range of different people from different cultures and nationalitys on this forum somethings simply do not translate an example of this is the word 'pants' which mean something totally different to a US member to what the word means to a UK citizen such as myself.... people mis-understand things or believe things were said in a different manner to what they were intended..
It simply happens unfortunately and theres not a thing anyone can do about it.
Is that what happened here, who knows but does it really matter, you have both clarified your positions on how things were understood and intended now it should be finished....... This thread is for Best drivers/RAM cooling for Nvidia and I would rather read about that !!

I had trouble in HL2: episode 1 and in the demo for Earth 2160 with 91.33. The video would be rolling at about 2000 fps whenever there was a savepoint. I had to ctrl-alt-del out and reselect the game and the video would be normal. Switching to 91.47 cleared up the issue.
